I bought the g-10 used love it, the fit and feel in the hand for me is great. The Native 5 has kicked all my Benchmades out of my pocket. The carbon fiber is a Spyderco second, I can't see what makes it a second. I would like to here some feedback about the second's, mine seems perfect.

Nice! And great pic. :)

The Native is one of my favorite Spydercos.

My experience with seconds are some are very hard if not impossible to tell what the flaw is. My caly 3.5 zdp is flawless, I checked it next to my brand new caly 3 zdp and they are identical.

Nice Natives. I would like to pick up a CF one of these days!

Does yours have a notch cut above the Spyderhole on the spine?
Is the blade centered in the liners when closed?
Is the edge grind even up both sides of the blade?
Is it not fully polished around the pivot area and missing logos?

Awesome score. Beautiful knives. I like how well-hidden the blade is when closed. I gave mine to my nephew as his first knife. I need to buy a new one.

Well damn, sounds like you may have ended up with a sweet tasting lemon!

Just hopefully it wasn't a heat teat defect or something you won't know until it breaks...?

^ Heat treat defect would suck.

That being said, I've been tempted to pull the trigger on the CF N5 a couple of times on the exchange here. I adore my G10 and FRN Natives. My personal goal is to grab a Fluted TI and a CF eventually to round out the collection. Maybe a green G10 "forum" N5, too.

The N5 is such a good knife.

Shouldn't be something like that. The seconds that Spyderco sells are cosmetic issues only. Functional problems are removed from the market completely. :)

Sounds like you got a great deal on that "Factory Second". I don't have any experience with Spyderco's "seconds", but I was really happy with my Kershaw Blur blem.

The Native 5 is my favorite Spyderco. I am thinking about picking up an FRN model as a backup.

Ah OK that's relieving to hear.
I have a factory second Kahr Delica and they didn't even finish grinding around the pivot or polishing, and since it wasn't finished polishing there are no logos or markings on the blade other than the spine grind. It works great though and locks up tight and closes centered, even smoother than some of my cherry Delicas, too!

Wow those scales are beautiful! Is it Micarta? What is the color called and where did you source them if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you! They are brown canvas micarta, purchased from Cuscadi. They call the scales "vintage brown micarta".

I'm loving that mod...

Beautiful knife. I am shocked that you still do not have backups.
I carry and use 2013 Forum Native. Once in a while I carry Ti Fluted or Native5 with desert Ironwood scales. I have few back-ups as well. You never know. I would strongly recommend to get N5 with S110V.
