OldHercDude OldHercDude a good man that posted a photo of his sweet cadet in 2020 sparked something in me and had me wanting to buy a black cadet just like his. I liked the photo so much I saved it and I hope he doesn't mind me reposting it here.

From this day I went on the hunt for a black cadet. Prices in Australia are high so I scoured the internet for a better price and I stumbled across a seller in the US that had them for for under $40 delivered...so I bought 2. One red one black.

Looking back I don't know how the seller had them shipped at such a low price, but that's not my problem 😄.

As soon as they arrived, 5 weeks later, I attached the black one to my keys. I put the red one in my storage area.

At first I didn't use it much and considered taking it off but I soon realized I was using it more often then I thought. Cutting things, sharpening pencils, my wife was asking for it to file the odd broken nail, opening cans and regular mundane knife stuff that you don't think about. It became a useful part of my EDC.

Having the Cadet in my pocket all of the time has had it subjected to dust, water, blood, metal grindings, heat and cold. I think it's holding up well. The action is still smooth and the blade is still sharp.
If you look carefully at this photo of it below, in the fog on a gate, you can see metal grindings that are stuck to it.

I left it in the back of my ute one night not long after this photo was taken and it rusted up. I'm guessing it was the metal grindings that rusted rather then the knife itself. A bit of WD40 and then I let it sit for a while and all the rust wiped away.

I have used this Cadet extensively skinning small game. It has turned out to be a great hunting companion as well.

I've reached my limit of ten files I'll continue this in another post.

Below is a photo and video with the red Cadet I bought the same day.

It still slices the grocery catalogs easily with only a touch up on the strop a couple of times in two years.

So to sum up I think this is a great knife and I recommend you to get one if you don't already have one. A great bit of EDC

PS. Here is a screenshot of what one would cost now in Australia.

I really like seeing photos of well loved knives! Also like how it’s almost turned gray from carry/use! It’s insane to see the prices they want for them now, you’d think victorinox would be more affordable globally.

Victorinox is not to blame it's mostly our isolation and partly exchange rates and taxes for high prices. All quality knives are expensive in Australia. Nothing to complain about just part of life here.
I do like how coloured Alox wears as well. When I see pristine vintage knives I often think it's a shame no one got to utilize it's capabilities to the fullest, but I fully understand not using a beautiful knife too. I'm guilty of it.
