My second Becker arrived Thursday. I bought a BK5 and I am impressed. This knife has a totally different feel than the 2. Now I see what users mean when they say it feels light and quick. I also was pleased with the sheath. I'm am not a big fan to the stock sheath for the BK2 but I am satisfied with the sheath that comes with the BK5. The only thing I may do to the sheath is replace the handle strap with a piece of shock cord to do away with the snap.

I bought the knife for a slicer. I plan on using the BK5 in the kitchen and for butchering and jerky making. So first I stripped the finish off the knife. Than I polished the sides of the knife in the cutting area only. I used various stones to polish the blade. There were some high and low spots in the grind, but I manage to remove 95% of the grinding marks. I was thinking about going with a high polish and leaving it like that. But because of a low spot where I couldn't remove all the grind marks, I decided to patina the knife. If and when I get access to a buffing wheel, I may yet go to the high polish. I think a buffing wheel would reach down into any low spots and blend the marks, but that remains to be seen.
I didn't have any vinegar in the cupboard, so I used mustard and some pickle juice for the patina mix. I blotched it onto the blade with a wadded up paper towel and left it on for 40 minutes.
Here is my knife after the work was done.

Now it is time to start getting busy in the kitchen.

Love the 5 have one coming for my B-day. Thinking the same thing, it will make a damn fine kitchen knife. Can't wait to bust that out to carve up the X-mass goose and ham. Already bought a can of quick strip for it.

Thanks guys! Used it tonight for cutting up some fruit. Could have use a kitchen knife, but it was a heck of alot more fun to use the BK5. It's really a great knife. Just looking at it suggest that it would make short work on a deer. I think it would even do well at skinning with that long curved belly.
