Hi all. Just registeted but ive been reading a lot for a month. Incredible ressources around here. I just started my second knife. A simple 01 9" pairing knife inspired (a lot) by the journyman from cut brooklyn.

Im really struggling to keep bevels steady and nice with my cheap 1x30 beltsander. I wont even talk about the ricasso.

Im wondering about either switching to hand filing or building my own 2x72.

Anyways, heres a pic. Ill post some more once i have ht and put a handle on. :)

Looks great! I started making knives a year ago with about 20-25 knives under me now and I first used a file jig. I then quickly bought a 1X30 and could do most of the work on that but because I'm so anal about having perfect lines I went back to the file jig to clean up my bevels. I recently upgraded to a 2x72 variable speed and yes its a lot nicer but its another tool I need to learn to use and its going to take a lot of practice in order to be able to make bevels strictly on the grinder. My 1x30 was so wobbly and had nasty vibrations which the 2x72 doesn't have as I find helps tremendously!! I bought an Ameribrade 272 but put my own 3phase motor and vfd on. The wider belt on the 2x72 seems to help some too in keeping a straighter bevel.
