Well, I have considered this combo for a while, and finally gave it a try and love it!

The smooth CF is slick in appearance and a bit slick as far as lack of grip vs textured scales; However, it feels great in hand and I really have no need for a more tactical grip.

I couldn't capture the CF pattern well, but it looks really nice in person.
With the Anodizing, newer flat screws and CF scale all I could ask for is a custom-ground blade.... but then I would never use it. :)

BTW, it was more difficult to swap the scale out than expected. A tip to all would be to slide a card between the clip and ti-frame to keep the pins in when removing the screws, or they just fall out and are difficult to piece back together with just two hands. I am sure there are similar tips out there but I found out the hard way with trial/error. ;)

QUESTION:
I noticed there was no lubrication, and find the blade to have a sweet spot difficult to adjust, between smooth opening and a too loose blade. Any tips to get this perfect? Didn't want to lock tight, but am leaning towards it and some sort of "lube," for the blade if necessary.

Man- talk about customer service! Rob is answering questions at 1 am after a long show weekend!

(Great looking XM btw!)

That looks great Evan. If changing scales out was an Olympic sport, i'm sure I could medal.:D

LOL, Yea, I could see that.
While we're on the subject, nice score on that rare "Grey" one from Chad.

By the way, any 'ole oil will work, but I have found that my XM LOVES militec-1 for some reason. Mine opens so effortlessly that when I do people ask where I got the switch-blade. The other thing nice about militec is it doesn't seem to collect dirt/debris as readily as other oils...maybe why it is rumored to be the lube of choice in the sanbox. Give it a try if you can and see if you find the same.

I use it too, but on my other knives. Do you do the apply and hot blow dryer treatments? I usually do 3 treatments like that but don't know about on an XM?

On the XM I actually just use it like regular luge, although going by the method you mention might be worth a try. I can't see it hurting anything to give it a try. All I can say as the way mine is, the blade is solid with ZERO play, yet opens smooth and quick as can only be appreciated by trying it. Msajor Kudos to RHK for building such a wonderful tool with remarkable tolerances.

Thanks for the tip, I am googling for a deal on it now. :)

I'm using some pappy as I type. Works great for cold weather lubrication. Haha

On all of my XM's I use what ever I have laying around. Whether that be wd40 or gun lube. Ricks knives aren't picky. Just about anything works. Or even nothing. I've carried an XM with no lube for months with no problems. These are hard use work knives. Regardless of the lube that's used or lack there of. The knife is always going to perform flawlessly. Rick designed them that way. So hit it with a shot of something (or don't) and enjoy it!

Thanksgiving is the best time around :)
Got lucky today and found this little bottle in a local store.
Restocking accomplished :)
