Hello everyone!

Today mail brought my from Greg's EDC selection #73 Texas yellow rose with few cosmetic flaws. It has few smudges on blades and over polished shield. Other than that its great...

My first opening attempt result nothing. I needed coin to pry open the blades. Clip blade was easier than spey. At 3rd opening, clip blade accidently escaped and nicked my left hand right below left hands index finger's first joint. It bled heavily but doesn't need stitches and I didn't felt the blade cut me.

Anyway, after 30 mins, two band aids, oil and few q-tips the pull has gone from 9½ to down around 7½. Good oiling helped as there was bit gritty feeling in first oepnings. Now they're completely gone and smooth.

I know #73's were tough but first time I had actual nail breaker, which I luckily managed to break in, so I can open it with quite easily without tools. Sharp, gorgrous yellow #73. Both blades close like bear traps. I can open them with relatively easily now, though they are toughest of my three #73's but no longer nail busters. I am expecting use to break them down to 6½-7 level in pulls in time.

I'll take pictures in couple of hours, when I can remove band aid and everything.

Yes, I love this one. No knife has ever bit me less than 5 mins :D prior this one :D

"Both blades close like bear traps." Be sure and take your time when closing and make sure all digits are safely out of the way! I got in a hurry with mine and it got me, luckily it was a lot duller then it is now or I think part of my pinky would be on the floor! Congrats on the #73; it is still my favorite all time trapper!

Congrats on the new GEC! My dogleg is slowly becoming more nail friendly over time. Oil on the joints did help smooth out the action but the pull is still strong.

Too late. Clip point closed and trapped skin between thumb and index finger of lef hand and chuncked nice 1,5" long gash. Luckily blade sit high and there was space between liner and blades so it didn't make clean thru-cut...

So far this knife has bit me 3 times today and once my friend. My blood thirsty fiend however is now usable and can be opened without tools, though my right hand thumb is sore beneath the nail and I got two cuts on left hand and single on right hand from this blood fiend. I am going to pocket this one tomorrow :D

All this meddling resulted mean blade rub marks when I had to pull and yank knife, so I went thru blades with 1500 grit sand paper and made northfield mirror finish gone. Then I ate couple of apples, oiled blades and put the blood fiend next to my keyboard waiting that my hands heal and thumb growing more on right hand (and stop aching). Luckily this is unserialized knife so I can put it thru hard with easier peace of mind. I tested and both blades cut nicely wood.

Well done Jani!!
You must give us an update of your knives soon...in the way of photos..as you seem to be getting quite a few lately
Good to hear you are much happier with your Texas Yellow Rose

Yeah, I had to get few with last pay check as I don't know when I get work next time... and thus when I have money to put on knife :P

Anyway pictures are here:

My 73510L Serialized below with nail nick below and above unserialized blood fiend 735210 with long pulls. I think if long pull would be tad further, opening knife would be easier like in nail nick versions, where nail nicks are afurther towards tip.

Blood fiend opened. I was so scared that my hand would still slip on open blade, so I opened spey with pliers. Its still tight to open. I hope to get it around 7 or 6½ when I keep use this.

2 out of 4 cuts I got today from this knife.

edit:

Oh, yes, if anyone know where I could get good, relatively cheap knife pick from reliable seller, PM or mail me please. I have realized I need one. I got 4 cuts in proof of that :p

Well at least with all those bites you can offically call her yours. :)

Indeed I can. No knife ever has bitten me this much, nor drew this much blood from me and additionally drew blood from my friend who opened her. I am in love :D

Today I lost around two spoonfull of blood because of her. Henche my first officially named knife: Blood Fiend

The last knife that bit me and drew blood was that Rough Rider copperhead when I was trying to take photos of it. Good snap and razor sharp and I had blood running out of a finger; I didn't feel a thing, but it bled enough that there was no doubt that it got me. I try to be more careful now. That new Winchester has me a bit timid; it snaps with a vengance.

Jani, I believe Blood Fiend is as good a name as any knife ever even HOPED to have!

Well done, you old joint oiler, you.

How is the pull on the liner lock model? If close to that on your bloody friend, that would scare me. I was thinking of getting a 73, but I don't want knives that bite back.

My other #73's (tidioute tractor green and liner lock) are stiff but not problematic. I think back springs are not noticably softer but nail nick is further to tip, which eases opening. I got Northfield double pull sunfish with long pull and nail nick. Its impossible to open with long pull and has stiffer back spring than this yellow rose but with nail nick which is near tip opening is not problematic nor scary.
