My 62 Year Old Father's Emerson

Hey guys,

Before I even knew of Bladeforums I bought my father an Emerson. He has never once complained about the knife I gave him. In fact, he loves it and has carried it for close to a decade now. He keeps it in his truck and uses it at different industrial accounts. Needless to say, I sharpen chips out from time to time...who cares...

Anyhow, here is a pic of the Emerson my Dad has carried and used for almost a decade now.

He never liked the chisel edge, so a while back I made it a true V-edge, convexed.

It melts through newspaper with an eerie silence.

I have it today to sharpen it for him. I figured I would snap a shot off.

Its cool to me. You can see he uses the belly to tip the most by the wear on the top of the saber grind.

Its neat to me. Also the edge profile from the choil to the tip is about even height. Where it appears to be thicker near the tip is where the bead blasting has worn from use.

Its a great knife. I always enjoy it when I sharpen it up for him.
 
Thats a great story and I am a bit jealous. Both of my grandfathers passed away in 91 and 92. I was very young but cherish the memories I have with them. I do have a special relationship with my wife's grandpa who is a sportsman like myself. I have been thinking about getting him a knife for a while now. He is older and failing in his health and really doesn't need a knife for much. I'm sure I will find something that will be perfect.

I'm sorry to hear that screamin, maybe make the best of what you still have. My father's father died in 2009 and my other grandpa is almost gone.

Both grandfather's were knife guys, but my dad who I gave the above EKI never was. He is getting there though and he loves the CQC13.

im loving emersons the more i see em !
ive fought it off for a while buying but but i think this years the year ... might buy 2-3 OUCH !
 
Chisel edges are horrible. I put the V on the last Emerson I had and it made a world of difference. Your fathers blade looks great!
 
Wow! That edge looks great. I have been wanting to get another emerson for a while now, but have held off due to the high cost. I want to get the the CQC 15 next. That is a sweet blade looking blade!
