I should'a taken pics, but just quickly re-wrapped it and sent it back to the vendor. It had gorgeous buffalo horn scales. But once the knife was opened, the blade was way over to one side. Not just a little, but way over. In open blade position, the frame and blade simply did not line up at all. Quick call to the vendor, and I have the knife going back for another knife.... another A. Wright, but not the same, because they had none left. Shame, because the handle was sooo down right purdy! lol! I also got in one of those German made Otter Messer anchor knives.... it is ok.... a workman's knife that's a little rough around the edges.... but still kind'a cool :-)

You have me worried! I have an order in for an A.Wright Hattrick umm. . . Ettrick, Ettrick!! :D
I hope it arrives in good fit!

The QC on the A Wright knives is hit and miss to say the least. It's a shame some dealers send out duff ones, instead of returning them to the factory. Always best to buy over the counter if at all possible. I bought an A Wright Lambsfoot for another member some time ago, and had to make 3 visits to the shop before I found one that was anything like acceptable.

The replacement will be a rosewood handled A. Wright pruner... my fingers are crossed :-) The vendor has offered me good service thus far... And, I think if another bad egg comes my way as a replacement, I'll pick another brand altogether from his offerings. Thanks for the heads up on A. Wright :-)

And I am sure that member appreciates your hard work!!;)

I've been wanting to pick up one myself but have steered clear after hearing too many stories here. I had gotten an Eye Witness which was nice, made even nicer still by Duane and is now in the pocket of one of my Scouts. I'd go for another Eye Witness, but Wright has one I really like (single blade snakewood "Senator").

That's a great-looking knife isn't it, but I've heard that even the high-end Wright knives lack good QC? Probably the best thing to do is find a good dealer and get them check the knife properly (as they should do anyway) prior to shipping.

I obviously don't want that A. Wright replacement hawkbill pruner to have to go back as well, and did exactly as you suggest. I requested that they spend a moment to give the knife a once over before sending it my way. Some of the most perfect knives I currently own (and I mean just overall really well put together, since nothing is perfect)... are my Case knives. I am diversifying a bit, not just with multiple currently made American brand knives, but also with imported from elsewhere knives. Case still holds much ground with me, all competition thus far included in the mix. I have purchased two Forge De Laguiole knives (French).. both were very nice. They are neat, especially since they have that, to me, foreign flair. But the prices were $150 and $120, and to be honest... neither will match the fit (though finish is about equal) of my Case mini trapper :-) But all is good... diversity for my collection :-)

The vendor was nice enough to do an inspection on the knife I had chosen as a replacement for the flawed knife going back... And, enough issues were found on that A. Wright knife to have them hint at me picking something else up, other than A. Wright brand. So, something else will be coming my way. Too bad about A. Wright QC :-(

It's a shame that the QC is so sloppy. They're inexpensive knives, but there's no excuse for some of the ones they send out. When they're good, they're very good, particularly for the price, but I don't think I'd mail-order one. Just one of the many Sheffield firms which has failed to catch up with the (reasonable) demands of the modern market.
