My AD with Kydex sets off alarms. :)

I went to two stores today. "Autozone" and "Bloomingdales".
Both stores had similar type of sensormatic alarms and they set off as I entered and left. I know for a fact it was my AD because I took my jacket off, had nothing in my pants pocket and passed thru then mini hell broke loose. I didn't want to take the AD off so everyone can see it. This was the first time I took my AD to any stores with these alarms. Has anyone had a similar experience? I just thought it was funny.

I've been in a couple of stores with these types of alarms with my TKa, but no buzzers have sounded. It's funny that you mention it, because everytime I walk through those "gates" I worry that my knife will set it off.

I wonder if your AD is strongly magnetized? Put a compass next to it to find out. Now, that I think about it, I'm not sure how those alarms work.

I have a question, what would a person do in this situation to avoid exposing his or her concealed Strider? What did you do Aluminum?

Wire,

I just put on a dumb smile on my face and wait till they let me walk through. :) Autozone was too busy to even look over to me. As I entered, the alarm rang and I paused for a moment. Continued thru the store. As I was leaving, it rang again. I waited for 10 seconds. No one bothered so I just walked out.

Bloomingdales: I entered and the security guard told me it was ok and to proceed. As I was leaving, the alarm went off out a different entrance/exit. I took my bags and passed it through. No alarm. I voluntarily took my coat off out of curiousity. No alarm. By now, the only thing metallic on my body is the Ad and the buckle of my belt (which is never a problem). I pass myself through the alarm posts and it went off. The security dude said it was probably a cell phone or keys or what not. But the problem was all that other stuff was in my coat, which was being held onto by my ladyfriend.

Wire, I too would like to know what one would/should do in this type of situation. Especially when there are police around.

Hi there Shelby
This is exactly why I have stopped bringing my more expensive knives to the city. These days I don't take anything that I'm not prepared to lose, and I'm not prepared to lose my AR. I don't know what could have cause the alarm to sound off though.

BTW I can't wait to see what you get next, just to see the pictures. ;)

Frank,

You're right about that.
I already retired my Stryker to my brother. I think I'll go to a couple of places to re-confirm.

By the way, have you been to Rocco's Calamari on ft.hamilton?

Shelby,
When I went to Union Square to see Blackhawk Down last week I took my Emerson CQC7B and I am starting to think about getting a mini Strider Buck knife. You just never know where a metal detector is going to pop up these days. I still use my AR here in Brooklyn though.
I have passed by Rocco's several times but I have never eaten there.

Havent had a knife set off one of the security scanners at retail stores. But my vest will set it off every single time at Hollywood Video, if I am also carrying a gun. I tryed with just the vest and just the gun, and nothing. But in combo they do it. Its weird.....

I had a Casio watch with the VCR controls that would set them off :D

They loved me. Never had a knife set one off.
