I don't carry my BM Balisongs as primary LPU's (life preservation units) anymore since discovering the clipped, studded wonders that are the BM 710 and 705 Axis Lock models.

When I did, however, I invented an adjustable latch for my model 30 Bali that I thought I'd share in case there are others out there who like their Balis to lock open and closed tighter than wear will allow. I used a dremel cutoff wheel to remove half of the "devil's tail" from the stainless latch. This makes one side of the latch perfectly flat. Then I used my drill press to drill a hole through the flattened side and then tapped the hole for a 4-40 socket- headed stainless screw (like those used in the frame of a Rekat Carnivore, only 4-40 and not 2-56). I put the screw in with loctite, and then filed the contact side of the head of the screw down to facilitate comfortable locking pressure in both the open and closed positions. Should wear and tear loosen the latch again, I just remove the screw, replace with a new one (using loctite again), and file the head down again to the new desired tightness.

I wish I could post an illustration, or the pic of my BM30 latch, but I'm not there yet technologically speaking. Hopefully you get the jist of it.

Professor.
