It was very worry to wait so much for the post advice... but this ended! Now I have my khuhuri in my hands. A question, that I believe, everybody may had answered a lot: how much may I sharpen my AK? I think using it for several proposes, since woodcarving to tree prunning.

When it looks like a boning knife you've gone too far.

Seriously, sharp as you want as long as you keep the convex edge and once formed, steel it regularly rather than using stones that take off mucho metal. Stones are ok once in a while. Day to day, use the steel ( chakma ).

Congratulations on surviving the wait for the postman :) It can be rough. The Khukuri FAQ has more information on our knives than can easily be absorbed in a week. Go to:

http://www.tx3.net/~howardw/Khukuris/KhukuriFAQ.htm

Scroll down to the sharpening section on the menu, and pick a method that suits your purpose. Carving? There are a number of us who call ourselves "woodchucks", after small furry animals who gnaw on wood (or furry old men who carve, sand and polish wood :)) What sort of carving do you intend, with an AK? We'll all be interested.

Sounds like Paulo's postman and my postman may be first cousins

Congrats on the new blade Paulo!!

and Welcome to the Cantina:D

BTW, where are you from that it took a month to get the khukuri?

Congratulations, I got my AK in today too. I hope you're having as good a time as I am.:)

Bem-vindo à Cantina, Paulo!

It is great to know I am no longer the only khuk nut over here!

Olá,Ivan! Uncle Bill told me that there was another brazilian in the forum. Nice to meet you, and thanks everybody for the welcome words! I think I am a little crazy for knives... since my childhood reading Tarzan books. But the one I dreamed for long time has finnally arrived. In the future, I want to learn about knifemaking... just for hobby, and to make knives that I have never found anywhere.

Tarzan was a great influence on me when I was young as well.
I also liked the Prince Valiant comic pages in the Sunday papers and used to look for all the swords, daggers, axes and other blade weapons I could find drawn there.

In the future, I want to learn about knifemaking... just for hobby, and to make knives that I have never found anywhere.

The Shop Talk Forum found under the general forum pages in the index is an excellent place to learn about knifemaking.
It's maybe the only other forum that's as nice as this one with many helpful, very knowledgeable people always willing to help a new fellow out.
All aspects of knifemaking in general are discussed there, even the building of belt grinders and other tools useful to a knifemaker or bladesmith.
About the only thing different there is that they tend to stay on topics better than we do.;)  :D

We NEVER wander from the topic, here. We may diverge, momentarily, or slip, just a bit, but we NEVER EVER wander.
.....BTW, are Dave and Sis engaged, yet? Just wan...er wondering
