I just got back into Vancouver after clearing customs and all I can say is WOW... and OOPS.

Wow because the drive down and back was truly hideous, snow and crappy drivers there and back (11+ hours total) left at 1 this morning, arrived at ~7 after having breakfast.. I was maybe 6th or 7th in line. Met a bunch of people in the lineup, all fantastic people. No forum members though. I mentioned here that I would be easy to spot because I am my screen name.... first person I meet and talk to is 6'9"!!! OOPS!

I saw Thomas and recognized him instantly, and introduced myself and my son. He took the time to talk to me for at least 10 minutes, even though he would have had far better things to do- WOW. I also got my bag (thank you Thomas!), and would have been happy to pay full throttle for it, they're great bags. Just before we went in, the sharpening crew came out and did what was previously mentioned http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514248&page=2, and I swear at least 2 people brought 4-5 knives each, and all were cheerfully done-another WOW.

The first batch of people, myself included, went in at about 8:30 I think, and I was stunned by the amount of product there. I just stood there for a few minutes trying to absorb it all, when I hear "hey sixfoot7". It's Thomas, waving me over and says "I'd like you to meet Ken Onion". KEN ONION!. Introduces me and my son by our names (yes- another WOW). I mentioned to Ken that I loved his custom work and that my first Kershaw, a Leek, was the reason I got started on this company's products to begin with. And then I said, "well it was very nice to meet you, I better get shopping." And I started shopping. OOPS! I was so impressed That Ken would show up at this sale that I simply couldn't think of any intelligent question to ask him. (got some now though :o ). Started looking at various blades, and then Thomas showed me some knives where he was standing. Almost everytime he pointed something out, I'd take it. All except one- the Tyrade. OOPS. I still can't believe I did that. So my list of 5 or so knives ended up being:

-Chive 1600
-Scallion "Snap-On" version, pocket clip is a wrench!
-both Ener-Gs
-Cyclone 1630 BLKST (see Dann, I pay attention)
-Speed Bump 1595
- JYD 1725SG2
-Leek 1660TIZDP
-G10 Offset
-3 different Wasabis (I prefer the edge for slicing)
- a Shun knife block
My 15 year old son's first ever knife purchases: Needs Work, JYD II G10, original JYD. I lent him the money for it, but he doesn't know yet that he doesn't have to pay me back as part of his Xmas gift.

Everyone there was courteous, calm, knowledgeable, and fun to talk to. Thomas and the staff made this day easily the best one in the past six weeks (since my wife and I separated), and probably will be for a good long time. I got to spend a great day together with my son, and there are now 2 generations of Kershaw customers for life.
Once again Thomas, thank you (and the entire staff!) for making this a terrific experience for us. I look forward to making this an annual event. I'd do it again in the same weather!

Same here. And he got to meet Thomas.
Wow, sixfoot7 you got a great assortment!

Sounds like you had a great trip!
Really great that you got to meet Ken and Thomas.

As many knives as you bought, I'm still impressed by your self restraint. From what everyone described I'd have probably needed a hand truck and another mortgage to get out of there. I've got to figure out a way to go next year!

Yep! Congrats! and welcome back to Van. I actually really like the snow:

1. no customers tomorrow when I go to work, easy day

2. no school on monday

:D

Wow nice haul! I wish I lived up there. It would be an honor to meet and shake the hands of Thomas and Ken Onion.

I probably never would have gotten the Offset had it not been for the price, simply because of the edge and my limited sharpening skills, but I am sure glad I did now. What a example of engineering and design! I wish I ahd thought of more things to say and ask Ken, but I think I was a little shocked too see him. But yes, and honour and privilege to meet both him and Thomas.

I was impressed with my restraint as well! I'm still unhappy that I forgot to get the Tyrade, and I should have gotten every Wasabi kitchen knife. My basket was actually much fuller, but I started putting things back, because I easily could have walked out with 40+ knives. But I took a deep breath and cut it down to what I didn't yet have, and whether or not I would use it. Despite the number of knives I now have (~25 in 10-11 months), every one will see use, and that's a rule I so far have been successful at sticking to. No safe queens.

Wow nice haul! I wish I lived up there. It would be an honor to meet and shake the hands of Thomas and Ken Onion.

Well, I wouldn't consider myself a hop, skip, and jump away with a nearly 800 mile round trip through crappy weather AND having to go to Seattle/Everett in the process (I-5 Seattle traffic makes me understand road rage, good thing i have satellite radio and comedy channels :)), but as I stated earlier, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Blazin, bad news for you- it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Even if it didn't, I guess I'm a mean dad, because I'd make my son go regardless of weather :D

I put all my knives in the bags, which don't have the Kershaw logo on them- they say Zero Tolerance! How cool is that?

" It's Thomas, waving me over and says "I'd like you to meet Ken Onion". KEN ONION!."

At least you were able to speak. I would have been stumbling all over my words not
getting anything out even remotely coherent.

Glad you had a nice time and got to meet Thomas and Ken. I'm typing this with clinched
teeth from envy. :grumpy: ;)

Sounds like an awesome trip and truly worth the drive. I'm feeling some pangs of jealousy!!!

Here are the pics of my newest goodies. I put the speed bump on the knife bag to illustrate the size of it. There are 2 pics of the TiZDP Leek, but I only have one. Pictured are: Speed Bump, both Ener-Gs, TiZDP Leek, JYD II TiSG2, Chive, Scallion, Cyclone, Bag, And G10 Offset. Not pictured are: Needs Work, JYD II G10, JYD, 3 Wasabis, and the Shun knife block.

Really nice haul sixfoot7!

Alas, I have never made it to a Kershaw sale. But I will, someday.

**I edited my above post because I'm an idiot. Had a :thumbdn: pic instead of . Sorry if it bothered you. Tis fixed. :)

Twas unnoticed until you mentioned it. Wouldn't have mattered much if you had meant it though- I got 'em and I love 'em :D, but thanks for changing it anyway, I thought it was the way it is right now (I'd make a great detective). Went to my local guy where I had bought all my knives from before this weekend to do a little show and show, and while I was there, I sold 2 Kershaws for him, A Leek and a mini Cyclone. Not that he wouldn't have done it, but he might have sold them something else ;).
By the way, sorry about the poor quality pics/background/lighting. Nowhere near as talented as many people here when it comes to setting and quality, but it's only a 2MP camera, and the images come out clearer and larger if you click on them.
