My apologies to Paul.

Wow, could I have stuck my foot farther in my mouth?

A few days ago on the topic of Paul Bos and his heat-treating business I really sent out the wrong message.

I didn't realize it until after I got some email pointing out that it wasn't the best thing to have said.

So I really have to straighten all that out.

First of all, I meant nothing negative in the way of Paul as a person or his skill in his profession. I mentioned that I've sent him my blades for the last four years, and that's only because he does such a great job with them. I have never gotten a blade back that was warped and they always have minimum scale on them.

His turnaround time is fast and his prices fair.

So to everyone that read my post and especially to Paul, I am sorry.

I mentioned calling him but that was at his shop number, I didn't think it was appropiate to call him at his home phone, but I have found out in the last couple days that that is the only place he has enough time to speak with the guys sending him blades.

I would recommend to anyone that if they had blades to be treated they send them to Paul, as a matter of fact I have given his name to many people.

So with all this said one has got to wonder what the heck I was thinking with my other post, and all I can say is I wasn't meaning to bash Paul or his business, only figure out why I hadn't ever made quite the same connection as some of his customers that posted. I was always trusted to pay my bill after the service had been provided, and I just wondered how we had gone this long without actually talking. It was more that I thought since I'm a very part time maker that I had done something wrong.

Again, I apologize. I really hope I didn't lose my heat-treater.

Most Sincerely,
Nick

i'm sure he will accept your apology! many professionals are very busy at work, and can rarely spend the time to give a customer a call, unless their is a problem, and a call is nessacary.
rob simonich heat treats my knives, and i send him e-mails, he sends an e-mail when he gets the knives. (sorry i'm delayed so much on the knives rob, i've been working hard making a new grinder. so as soon as i have a few more finished i'll send them all out)

I have no problem getting hold of Paul at the shop if I call between 9:00-11:00 AM Calif. time... I know Paul reads these foums pretty regular, you might want to give him a call and let him know whats on your mind. I am sure he would like to hear from you...

Paul Bos left a VERY good paying job in the aviation industry because it was such a high stress job, they wanted him to cut corners, and he just COULDNT do it!! He got to doing knives at about HALF what he was making because he enjoyed it! ANY man will take critisism about his work to heart EVEN if its unfounded!!
I have talked to Paul on many occasions about things said here, he is a man of very few words, and choses to let his work speak for him.. I KNOW Paul would NOT want me saying these things but I feel I should, he is a Living Legend, just like Bob Loveless! This man does us ALL a great service, and has been an integral part of the ever growing business of knives for many years... Just my thoughts on Mr.Bos...

Yep, Trace you said it all.

BTW, his home phone number is listed in Knives 2000 and every other year of Knives 19XX, and he has no problem with being called there.
