This is a happy day!

I got my AR #068 back from the shop this afternoon after I had sent it in back in December to get some repair work on it (there was some blade play). As far as I can tell I ended up getting a whole new knife! It used to be Tiger striped, with the small thumb studs, stamped BG-42. I asked if I could get the new blade bead-blasted and with the larger studs instead. Here it is (oh, BTW it is now stamped ATS-34 ;))

The guys did a fantastic job with the folder and it didn't cost me anything but waiting time.

I also got a sheath for it as well.

Many, many thanks to Mick for taking the time out from being a father to regind my knife, thanks to Steve and Monique for putting up with my calls and emails.

WooHoo!!! {Sidewinder doing the happy knife dance}

Sidewinder,
That's a beautiful knife.... excellent work Mick.

Note: No Strider Knives stamp on the bushing?

Sidewinder,

I also have a little blade play on my AR. When it is fully opened and locked, there is a slight up and down wobble. Probably about 1/2mm to 1mm play. How was yours? How long did you wait for yours for repair? Also, how is it now?

Shelby,

My AR wiggled from the start. The movement was just enough that I thought I should have it checked out. I was also concerned with the position of the lock liner when the knife was open. It seemed that it should have been over a little more. Actually pictures of your AR convinced me that the liner needed to be over more.

I going to try to explain why I think my AR had some blade play, bear with me...If you look at your AR at the point where the blade contacts the stop pin it falls on one of the raised portions on the spine. Well on my old AR this area was not flat, the raised portion had a slight crowning or bevel such that it didn't contact the stop pin fully. After opening the knife serveral times I believe that this uneven point on the spine began to wear the stop pin unevenly and caused the blade wiggle to worsen.

When I sent it in, Steve told me that there was a batch that of ARs that had problems. He thought that most of them were caught before going out of the shop. He said that mine was one of them.

I sent it in and the waiting was the hardest part. Imagine getting a new AR and then days later having to send it in. All in all the wait was about 10 weeks. Now I'll have to say that it was sent in over the holidays and was also during the time Mick had a new child, so I totally understood the situation. Besides, this was also the time when everybody was hot to get an AR and there was a lot of pressure to make them. I knew it was going to be a while so I just hoped for the best. I did call and email a couple of times to make sure that it didn't fall into some black hole in the dark corners of Strider Knives. But my fears were unfounded in that they seems to have a good tracking system for repairs.

I would look over your knife carfully and if you feel that it needs Mick to look at it, go ahead and send it in with a note. Who knows, maybe the fix is really easy. My fix involved getting a new blade reground (hollow), bead-blasted, different thumb studs and new sheath made. I am very happy with the results and can only praise the team at Strider for the work they do.

Good luck and email me if you have more questions.

SideWinder,

Thanks man. As a matter of fact, I think that's what happened to mine. It seems that the point where the blade meets the pin stop, it looks a little worn on an angle because the blade metal is not flush.

Hey Sidewinder,

I picked up the GB #68 a few weeks ago. It's absolutely perfect! It has the tiger-stripe finish, single large thumbstud, & kydex sheath. No play whatsoever.....just PERFECT! If you ever decide to sell your AR#68, send me an e-mail. I'd like to complete the serial numbered pair.

You'll have to pry it from my dead cold hands before anyone gets my AR!!!

Hey, wanna sell your GB? :D

Took me long enough to get my act together and get this one. Just out of curiousity, why did you chose #68?

I dropped my AR off with Mike at Badassknives a few weeks ago...and just got it back this morning! :D :D

I had some ambi thumb studs installed, and have the very small vertical "wiggle" fixed. Guess I haven't seen it in a while, but it seems even more stout and bomber than I remember! Very solid lock up, and the thumb studs are sweet!

Thanks Mick and Duane, and thanks to Mike. I was trying to get a Strider hat at Trexpo, but the booth was very busy...go figure...Mike also sent me a new Strider hat since I never got close enough to get one at Trexpo! Didn't even charge me for shipping!

If you guys are looking for a good guy to buy your first...or next Strider from...Mike is the man!
