One of the first two HI kuks I ever got was a 16.5" WW II model. It has always been my favorite combat "knife" and all-around kuk. Yeah, there are others I like- grew to love the 18" Chitlangi, and I now have a 21" Chit that I would prefer to use if combat was the sole reason for carry, but the WW II has always been my baby.

My roomate and I have started to get the house really squared away, and that includes a lot of yardwork. I was out in the back yard with a couple of guys that were helping us, last Friday, and saw that there were still a lot of small "trash" trees growing around the fences.

When I first grabbed my knife, and started toward the trees, the men said something about the saw that was nearby...but, with the size and number of saplings and small trees felled, the kuk was MUCH quicker.

I've pretty much been a studious little nancy boy since January, so my skin wasn't used to the abuse, but here is most of what I had cut down, about an hour later...

There is that. I've lost all my extra weight in only 2 weeks. Wish I'd discovered this exercise program years ago!

Love to see pics like that. Was out in the woods just a little while ago but didn't cut anything that big, or that much. Now you need to wait a few months and have a party with a bonfire :D

I've got a village chainpuri at 17 inches and 24 ounces that's my work khuk. ( I have another village chainpuri at 17 inches and 14 ounces - gets taken out and resharpened now and again. Guess what I'm keeping that ready for. )

BTW - Uncle sent a 21 ounce Bura WW2 16.5 incher some time ago to my great-nephew back from Iraq and then headed for Afghanistan.

Energetic 20 yr old. We call it the J&J fitness routine. :D (Of course, years ago, it wouldn't have been legal, considering the 12 year diff in age! :footinmou :p )

last time i had to do real chopping, it was about 3 hours work on a bush in our front yard that was goin tree on us... i used a battle mistress for it, and man would i have liked to use a 12" ak more if i had had it... it was all springy fresh live bush, without enough solidity in most of it to get sliced by a large blade. tired, sore, slightly bloodied, but felt alive, and slept better then i had in months.

as a side note, your avatar and name combination is one of the coolest on the boards

I grabbed a 16.5 ww2 by kumar (you all saw the blem come up, what of it? :D )

This is a first khuk and I hope we have the same taste I guess.

You can't go wrong with a 16.5 WW II. You just can't.

Thanks, Seth. I felt pretty alive after the hacking and smashing, too. Most people probably don't realize I'm wearing glasses in my avatar pic.

You mean those aren't shades in your atavar pict?

................

You do own a larger khuk, right? If so, and you used the little WWll, I imagine you did it out of fondness and for the additional work-out. A larger khuk would have gone done better, as I'm sure you know.

I actually dislike little saplings like that- especially chokecherry here. The limbs/trunks 'give' so you swing away without a conclusive event. I've wondered if the curved hanshee wouldn't do better because of the possibility of a cut/pull

No, they are, Munk. My brother saw the av, and just thought it was the evil dark hollows around my eyes.

Yeah, I recently gave away my 18" Chit, but still have access to my 21", and an 18" WW II. The thing is, most of these saplings were very close to the fence, so I didn't have much room to swing.

You are definitely right about the "give" to the little bastards, though. Harder wood would have actually made my job easier...

John

You definately have the arms for the job. Your arms do not appear to be long, however. I gave this a little thought towards khuk mechanical advantages and am afraid the possiblities boggled the mind. One of my thoughts was wondering if you can achieve a max mechanical advantage faster, with a shorter circle, than would a longer arm.

the Chokecherry here does not want to be cut. It is tough and stringy and whips away from the blade. I have to cut down.

When you put your legs together- can we still see space, but never rode a horse?

if i could have it, id buy one of the swamp rat short swords for jobs like that.... light, indestructable steel, good rubber handle... and if you got them on the original run, under 200$ :(

i think i just need to get a 15" siru....

Spectre, put a close up shot of the "baby" up there, a full side profile. I'm dying to see what a shop one 16.5" WWII looks like.

Seth, see if UB has any 15" Sirupati villagers left for $50. I just got mine and it is awesome for that light stuff, weighs exactly 1 lb.

I'll see if I can get a pic of her up soon.
This pic w/ foliage was actually taken by Byron, who's in TX with Art Eatman right now. I tried to get a good profile shot on a couple of the pics, but I asked Byron to just pick a pic to send me.

i just came out of a short period of debt, and was given a large sum of money for nothing, and its left me in an odd spot... you never really get into the mode of saving until you have to worry about wether or not you'lll be able to get gas this paycheck. i have the money, but im still in the "i have everything i need, and then some. ive got the battle mistress, its the same size... not as nice to use, but its about equal" swing of things.

i may however try trading my 20" ang for one sooner or later...

*scratch that  trade post up*
