My "Backup" Setup

I've had pocket tools on the brain lately.

Here's my dilemma: I have recently changed my EDC setup to rely on 3 pieces that seem to meet my various needs. A Dodo, a Cybertool 34, and a Leatherman Supertool. I carry this setup every day and am quite pleased with it. It's a bit redundant but I need it to be somewhat redundant. I usually toss in a larger locking blade like my Endura or Flash 2 for kicks if I am wearing jeans that day. I use at least one tool every day.

The fact is that I plan on carrying this setup until something so great comes along to make all these things useless or I lose something. Guess which will happen first :D

But here lately I've been having to *gasp* wear a suit and the fact is that even though they're easily carried in khakis and jeans my Supertool and Cybertool are thick and heavy in dress slacks. Also on these occassions I have to sit on my butt for hours on end and having those things in my back pockets is literally a pain in the arse and due to their weight they tend to slide out as I shift. Normally it's not a problem as I stand most of the day and they're quite secure. Also due to the environment I work in, I'm better off not advertising my toys yet I actually need them in a bad way at times. So deep pocket carry with nothing showing is important.

So I'm thinking of maybe some kind of backup set I can use this 1 day in 10 that won't be as good as my every day rig but will work in a pinch. I've determined I need the following at minimum:

A large flat screwdriver
A very small flat screwdriver, preferably in a size that can be used to some effect on a small torx screw (Yes I know that's awkward and a bad idea if there's a lot of tension on the screw but it's just an oddball thing I encounter a lot)
A phillips head driver
A miniature/eyeglass/jewler's screwdriver
A pair of scissors, preferably like the ones on a full size (3 inches or so long) Victorinox SAK
Tweezers, preferably like the ones on a Victorinox SAK
Two plain edge blades
Full Size preferably needlenose pliers (the ones on the SAK are just too small) with the longest possible handles (probably about 4 inches)

And it needs to be slim as possible. I would also use this setup while traveling under certain circumstances and other oddball consequences. I'm also not looking to spend too much on it since it won't be for every day... about 3 days a month. These pieces will also serve as backups should I forget or lose or send one of my regular tools off for factory service.

I'm not much of a minimalist and was wondering if there were any reccommendations from anyone. I know a lot people tend to carry the smaller SAKs/multitools around here and could probably suggest something. Heck I may find something I like even better. I didn't think I'd like a little thing like the Dodo and I carry it every day now.

Just as a side note I actually do need one locking blade but I plan on having my Dodo with me so it can fill that role quite nicely. I always like to have one locking blade to complement any slipjoints. It just works out better for me.

Also I do have big mitts. I realize what I'm asking for goes against this completely but getting good ergonomics and the most possible overall length would be great.

Sounds like you need to just carry the cybertool and a pair of plain old needlenose pliers.... Locking blade can be covered by the Dodo as you mentioned...

Try the Leatherman Juice line. Probably a CS4 or the Sam's Club model if you can find it. The Sams Club is the same as a S4 but adds a corkscrew. You can then fit the Jeweler's screwdriver from a SAK there. If you can't find the Sam's Club version get the CS4 and add a SAK Compact.
