I know this is a merger collection as compared to most of you all, but they are all mine. I started this collection over 15 years ago when one of my relatives visited from the Philippines and gave me a Balisong (second row, 4th from the left). As any collection there is always room for expansion :) Thanks for looking,

No benchmades ??:(

Very nice collection of bali's from the homeland.

Were they all made there? Which region?

I actually have a BM 42 which I opted not to include in my FHM collection. Though I like my 42 I find in and artistic way they are not as nice a a handmade Filipino balisong.

Tony,
I never really thought about where they were made :( . I do know that several of them were purchase in Batangas and several others were from Manila. Is there a way to figure out when and where they were made?

I'm no expert, and that is one part of balisongology that I never focused on, and should now.

Ahhh, Pete, Snipes, anyone wanna step in here and help?

Welcome to the Bali-Forum :) It is pretty tough to tell precisely where many of the Filipino knives came from.., but you've got a few there that are definitely from one of the small Batangas villages.

Years ago, I used to see more makers that put distinguishing marks or a family trademark of some kind on the blade, or sometimes even the latch. That is less common these days, and there aren't as many young folks from Batangas Province carrying on the trade. Most are leaving for economic reasons, seeking employment in Manila, or other big cities.

Thanks for posting your pictures.., very nice collection you have there. If you are interested in a detailed breakdown of the Barrios and Villages where you might find some nice ones (i.e., if you visit there). Email me and I'd be happy to tell you where to go.

These guys have heard it before...lol.., so I don't want to clog the "Information Highway"...

See ya...

Very nice collection! :D

Actually, the FHM's are pretty nice... They're not very good flippers, but they look nice.

Keep sharing pictures, that's what we like!

Why yes that is an Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts shirt.

It's interesting that you should bring that knife up (top left w/ white scales. That particular knife has special meaning to me because except for the blade and bolsters, I made it. It actually came about in the 80's when the original knife got a crack on one of the handles that was pretty severe. I had studied the design a balisong and had some spare copper tubing laying around, so I thought I would try building my own knife. It didn't turn out very pretty but it was even, balanced and flipped really well. As a matter of fact with all the extra weight involved in it's construction it flipped really well. Another thing about the knife that is unique is that the white scales were made from an old cutting board that I had laying around. Not bad for some wet behind the ears kid! 20 years later and the knife is still holding up strong and begs to be flipped. Thanks for noticing!

Hey and welcome!

Do you still go to the Inosanto Academy?
Have you ever met Jeff Imada there?
