I just finished my first battle axe, I call it "TALON". It is made out of carbon steel finished with gun blue. The handle is wrapped it black leather with copper braded wire. What do y'all think?

How long'd it take?
you do it all by yourself?
It looks very nasty (good) my only complaint is I'd be afraid to neuter myself with the handle point.

Sweet baby Jesus in a helicopter!

Its the pissed-off progeny of Klingon and Viking battle axes that got sticky with each other!

Yeah, tell us more about how you made it - the steel "heat treat & source", the uses of all of the sharp edges. Is it modeled after a real weapon or a fantasy? I hope they're not just there to look cool. Potential "Mall Ninja Alert" is in effect until we get your reply! :D

WOW! Thanks for the comments. Time? Hahaha..I didn't keep track, it did take some time.

It all started at work. A friend and I were talking about battle axes, I started doodleing one and Talon just came about. The steel my Dad donated it, so I don't know what type of carbon steel it is, it's .25" thick. It was laying in a corner of the garage for years. I wanted to remove the rust but keep the pitting. I used Rust Cure (phospheric acid), once the black oxide was present. Then used "flingging wires of death" on a grinder to reviel the pits. Measured out my design, then started cutting with the plasma cutter. I only ground down the edges, I didn't want to upset the pits. It looks heavy, but not too bad, I don't own a scale. The only heat treatment was done by tools..hahaha. I wanted to give the finish a feeling of some exotic metal from here or else where. I blued it 6 times.

I have to tell ya, it's balanced very nice for it's size/wieght and every major points are sharp. Better be aware and weld it with care.

Mall Ninja Alert....dude, that is funny.

I'm thinking of selling it.... not sure yet. It does look cool hang'n around, cool conversation piece. let's see now, black nija suit....check......

This might be the base. I carved that out of a Huckberry stump. Those are taxidermy goat eyes. The name is Block Head.

Meat_Hammer you are the Grand Master of all who would aspire to the art of Mall Ninjutsu. Great work man. You're authentic. :D

Good work. I'd like it better if there is a connection at the beard to the shaft. As it is now the cantilever effect cause of the super long beard is a bit too much. Fine if whacking meat and bones but not wood methinks.

Spikes on the opposite end good for flesh but might get trapped when shish kebabing a person. It also might bend if impact wood. I prefer a more stockier design.

Very original, lotsa work on it :)

That looks really cool! Nice work. I'm not sure about the pointed handle though. Even for a fantasy type of blade, that seems a bit unpractical.

I hate misleading thread titles... I thought this would be a "My wife, she..." thread! No, it's some weird camp hatchet I can't figure out how you'd use... or baton with...

You know, They have meds now for chronic indigestion - you don't have to go to bed with a weird tummy and have nightmares...

I must not have proper class - when you have to explain 'art' to me...

Interesting? Naw, just weird!

You do some awesome stuff! For some reason the image of throwing the axe through a series of lined-up pumpkins comes to mind.
