My falcata came today (of course I was waiting next to the mailbox like a true HIKV sufferer ;)). Here are its specs:

OAL: 27.25"
Blade: 20 3/16" X 2.25" X 5/16" at thickest.
Weight (according to Uncle): 2.75lbs
Point Of Balance: About 3.75" from guard.
Kami: Sanu

The falcata's scabbard is well made and the falcata can be quickly drawn from it with ease. The chape is steel with cross hatching.

Impressions: I am very pleased with my falcata. I had originally intended for Durba to make it, but mainly so that I could have something by him and I knew he'd keep the weight down. I was very surprised that Sanu had made it, considering that he got the weight down to 2.75lbs while making it 27.25" OAL instead of 26.5" like the other two.  :D I had include the weight range recommended by Anton so that might be the reason mine came out light.

I've calculated that my falcata weighs a hair over 1.61oz per inch. By my calculation, to get the falcatas down to 2.5lbs, they would have to be made just under 25" overall. Personally I like my falcata as long as it is now. With its present weight and POB, it is nimble and quick in my hand, offering great thrusting as well as slashing and chopping potential.

I took it outside and played with it some. Like Anton said in his review, you can sort of "throw" it; the handle offers great retention while the velocity of the blade makes it a formidable weapon.

I'll be testing my falcata in a few days. I have a kevlar helmet that I'll test it on (I've decided to leave the screws in to keep the test and results as realistic as possible). In addition, I'll have some hanging water-filled soda bottles as a test of the falcata's slicing ability. I'll be sure to take pictures to send to Uncle.

Thanks for report from the field, Bob. And, I'd like to add this Falcata was a special prepaid order and the kamis came as close as they could to what Bob had requested. He wanted a little lighter blade but I believe the kamis did not want to go thin enough to give him the weight he wanted.

The kamis have came a long way in getting some of these blades down to a thinner profile.
About a year ago they were still digging their heels in saying that the thin blades wouldn't be as suitable for heavy work.
And they're right. You wouldn't want to do things with these lighter blades that you wouldn't think twice about using an AK or any of the standard khuks for.
But on the other hand these new thinner blades will be more than suitable for the uses they're designed for.
I'm glad to see the change for one anyway.:)

I gotta hurry, a little bit, and get the handle crack fixed on mine so I can swing it around a little, the Falcata cries out to be whirled and twirled.:D

That's my impression too. It almost feels like this sword should be handled more like a nunchaku than a traditional sword.

Hi Guys,
I was luck enough to have my Falcata arrive as a suprise yesterday afternoon. Uncle Bills shipping and travel,(faster than a speeding bullet).
My sheath sounds exactly like yours Bob. Nicely done, with a super quick drawability. I like it!!!
The Falcata is a little different in stats:
OAL:27" even
Blade:21" even X 2 7/16" X .300 Thou. at its thickest.
Weight:3 1/4 bs. per postal scale. (STOUT)
Kami: Sanu
POB: 4 1/4 in front of guard

I actually do not mind the extra weight. It sort of gives it an ability to chop as a tool , if I were so inclined without as much fear as I would feel if it were a 2 1/2 lber. The blades fullers are well defined and even. There is a nice distal taper. The blade finish is super, with the brass guard melting into place nicely with the blade. The handle slabs had some cracking occuring, but this has been stopped and blended to my satisfaction, fairly easily.
All in all, a real nice piece!!! I was happy to see the results were so nice, as I have always wanted a Falcata, but could not bring myself to buy a MR version.
This blade is a little tip heavier, and is not a twirler, but neither am I.
Thanks Uncle Bill for another fine tool !!
