A few weeks back, forum guru Guyon said he'd hook me up with one of his BK14 factory "seconds" for my daughter. Finally showed up in the mail today; guess the customs agents were having too much fun with it to let it slide. Now my Becker family has doubled in size!

Since it was marked as a second, thought it might be one of those ones that were bent due to the stamping process I'd read about, but there was no bend to the knife according to my highly untrained and unskilled eye.

No blemishes seen either. The paracord wrap Guyon did in his tutorial looks even better in person. Showed it to my daughter; she was super stoked when I told her I will me hers when she's a little older (As an aside, at what age have you guys given your kids a knife of their own? I figure around 8 or so; I know she has my love for the outdoors, but she kinda has her mothers motor skills lol)

I figure I have about 2 years before I have to give it up. Right now I'm deciding exactly what I want to do to it - strip the blade, play around with a patina, maybe attach the sheath to a small survival pouch. I was thinking adding some jimping to it as well? Get her personalized before I have to take off the paracord and rewrap it in pink

So a thumbs up and a pat on the back for a very nice gesture from Guyon; I don't know how to put this but he's kind of a big deal :D

I'll be sure to pay it forward in the future...

Aikiguy, I'm glad it got there safely, and I hope you and your daughter enjoy it.

To explain the phrase, "choked if a patient gets hold of their ID lanyards"...

I tucked in a safety clasp and was explaining why a lot of nurses use them.
Solid paracord necklace = bad. Paracord necklace with safety clasp =

They look good with a stripped blade, but I left the coating underneath the cord wrap. Here's a pic with one of the safety clasps in sight.

Guyon, where do you get those safety clasps? Thank you.

(email or PM if it's verbotten to state here.)

I buy them in bulk (50-100) on the bay. Click my username and email me your address and I'll drop you two or three in the mail.

Nice! People in the Becker asylum are extremely generous.
And to help answer your question about kids and knives; I am wwwaaayyy to young to be having kids. But I got my first knife when I was about 7, it was a piece if crap frost folder. When I was about 9-10 I got to mess with a few, ka-bars and ESEEs and stuff, and I did not start buying and carrying good knives until I was about 10 though. I did not really have many people teach me about knives, most of my knowledge is from here. So if you teach her now I think she would be good to go in not too long.

In answer to the question about when to give kids a knife. My daughter got her first ever blade that was all hers; and gets to keep it where she wants and use it when she wants, at the age of 13. I did this not because it took so long for her to learn to use a knife (she's been using knives with her parents camping and in the Girls Scouts for 8 or so years now.) I didn't choose an age range, but rather a responsibility range. When I felt she wasn't going to act like an idiot with it is when she got it. Same with my son, when I feel he won't do stupid sh&t with it (like his dumbass father did growing up, took it to school and pulled it on a kid that was bullying him....got suspended and the knife confiscated) is when he gets it.

Some stand up guys here. Nice blades, and the safety clasp is a great idea, gonna jump on eBay and have a peek soon.

Thanks for the replies Knife and TD; I'll definitely take your advise into consideration. She's pretty responsible so far, just a little clumsy that's all lol. I'll be teaching her about knife safety and responsibility ASAP, and kinda play it from ear from there...like you said, make sure she doesn't pull any stupid stunts with it. That's my job, after all :)
