So here is my current Becker family, all loved very much. Had a 2, but gifted it to a friend. The handles on the 24 were made by 710

And now the sheaths. 710 Has made all my sheaths, and they absolutely rock! The retention is great, and the customer service is beyond amazing. Dude can make just about whatever you want, in any color you want with any carry option.
The handles and sheath for my 24 were part of a contest I won from him, and the 24 was a GAW I won here on the forum....

So now the close call...I think it's interesting that the 24 setup I have was all gifted to me.
We have had some pretty devastating flooding the past week here in Austin. I was hiking a creek with my dog that is usually a trickle, yesterday it was fast moving and pretty deep. It's pretty much surround by slick limestone, and some trees here and there. Before I get into the details, I should have not been hiking that close to creek, and I am aware of how foolish it was. I decided it was a calculated risk.
About 30 mins into the hike, my dog decides to go baby goat on me and parkour off my ankles/shins. I fall right on my rear end and slide into the fast moving creek. I have been trained in swift water rescue, and the smartest thing to do would have been to swim with the current to a place I could have easily exited from. So I'm in the water, trying my hardest to grasp onto the slick limestone to pull myself up. The limestone was like a shelf, with the lip 8 inches above the water. The water is about to my chin. I'm moving down the creek, my dog is flipping out, and mainly I want to keep him out of the water so he doesn't get caught up in something or down stream a mile away. There is this half rotted root growing in the limestone that comes right about to the lip of water. Now enter the 24, it's handles and sheath that were all recently gifted to me. This is my first time wearing the necker, as I usually don't wear neckers. I pull it out of it's sheath, kick up as hard as I can and double fist it into the half rotted tree root. It proved to be just enough anchor to help me scramble my way out of the water.
So, I feel foolish hiking somewhere dangerous, but I also feel thankful for the generosity of the people on this forum for hooking a sister up.

Nikki glad you're alright! Sometimes having that extra little bit of training makes a difference, and sometimes we make the foolish choices anyway.

Good to see you came out ok, learned a lesson and kept the pooch out of the drink. Good looking collection there! Of course, you'll wanna pick up a BK9 or a BK4.

Thanks guys, we are both ok, and learned our lesson for sure. I'm a little scraped up, but nothing bad. Here is a picture of my baby goat jack ass.

"my dog decides to go baby goat on me and parkour off my ankles/shins"

hahahaha. That had me rolling. Glad you are okay and had a useful tool and the mindset to get out safe.

Glad to hear you and the dog are basically OK. You did have your wits about you to rescue yourself.
Our niece has a dog kinda like yours named 'Tank.'

That's a close call. I remember when I used to live in Airzona during monsoon season I got caught in a falsh flood in a very narrow rock area. This could have ended very badly for me and I'm lucky that I was able to climb up on a ledge and chill for about 2 hours until everything drained out. I remember walking right past those "flash flood warning area" signs on the trailhead.....der

BTW nice set of knives you got there but your missing a 9 and 16. :)

Glad you got a kick out of that. He is usually pretty springy and hyper...but in this case he hadn't been out to play in like a month due to a foot injury....so he was extra springy.

Ha! I def need a 16 for sure! I have so many fixed blades around that size now that I just can't justify another purchase....I have a serious problem. Seriously.

Yep, you're a badass. ;)

Glad you guys came out of that ok!

The only problem I see is you need more fixed blades. One can never have "too many". One may have more than they have an immediate use for, but I like to have a few extras for those last minute gift ideas. :D Nothing says "I love you." more than a good looking useable 4" - 8" fixed blade.

But then I'm still single, too. Maybe there's a connection? :D

Wow crazy story! Glad everything turned out ok, and you and your pooch are no worse for wear. Those are a tremendous amount of coincidences - newly won 24, first time wearing a neck knife, your previous training in water rescue - that aligned together to make sure you both came out of this incident without injury or worse. The knife gods were definitely looking out for you that day. Maybe time to some lotto tickets lol? This is probably one of the best why-you-carry-a-knife-with-you stories I've heard in a while...again, glad you came out of it with just some bruises and a realization what you did wrong, and we're able to share it with the rest of us.

And this is why I EDC my 24 and don't EVER have pets. Stupid pet tricks get people killed.

Quick thinking on your part, glad you....and the dog...are ok.

I think the lottery is a great idea! And in all due respect, I went against my training to save the damn dog, but it all worked out.

Very nice knives and sheath collection. And a great story, very lucky and glad you got out of it safely. Love the photo of your dog, very cute but you can see troublemaker in the eyes :D

WOW !!! Glad to hear you & the dog are OK. Could have been MUCH worse. Yup, Lara Croft stuff right there !!! :D
