So here is my current Becker family, all loved very much. Had a 2, but gifted it to a friend. The handles on the 24 were made by 710
And now the sheaths. 710 Has made all my sheaths, and they absolutely rock! The retention is great, and the customer service is beyond amazing. Dude can make just about whatever you want, in any color you want with any carry option.
The handles and sheath for my 24 were part of a contest I won from him, and the 24 was a GAW I won here on the forum....
So now the close call...I think it's interesting that the 24 setup I have was all gifted to me.
We have had some pretty devastating flooding the past week here in Austin. I was hiking a creek with my dog that is usually a trickle, yesterday it was fast moving and pretty deep. It's pretty much surround by slick limestone, and some trees here and there. Before I get into the details, I should have not been hiking that close to creek, and I am aware of how foolish it was. I decided it was a calculated risk.
About 30 mins into the hike, my dog decides to go baby goat on me and parkour off my ankles/shins. I fall right on my rear end and slide into the fast moving creek. I have been trained in swift water rescue, and the smartest thing to do would have been to swim with the current to a place I could have easily exited from. So I'm in the water, trying my hardest to grasp onto the slick limestone to pull myself up. The limestone was like a shelf, with the lip 8 inches above the water. The water is about to my chin. I'm moving down the creek, my dog is flipping out, and mainly I want to keep him out of the water so he doesn't get caught up in something or down stream a mile away. There is this half rotted root growing in the limestone that comes right about to the lip of water. Now enter the 24, it's handles and sheath that were all recently gifted to me. This is my first time wearing the necker, as I usually don't wear neckers. I pull it out of it's sheath, kick up as hard as I can and double fist it into the half rotted tree root. It proved to be just enough anchor to help me scramble my way out of the water.
So, I feel foolish hiking somewhere dangerous, but I also feel thankful for the generosity of the people on this forum for hooking a sister up.
