Hey peoples,

I became aggravated trying to fix my POS phone yesterday and ended up working on some friend's knives for them.
The edges needed to be cleaned up, and then convexed. It gets easier and easier. I touched up my Bk-11 and decided a bit of wood chipping was in order. Grabbed a seasoned block of oak..and thirty minutes later, it was a pile of slivers. Hehehe. Fun fun. I'm guessing I either have very strong hands or a convexed 11 is a wicked little monster..or a combination of both. I ended up slicing my thumb wide open, though, I'd dropped my knife and by reflex tried to grab it... Yeah, that was a good one.. Ended up super-gluing my thumb shut. I also roughed up the spine on the 11, and then tried it with a ferro rod....lot'sa sparks!! Hehe..scraped a few more showers off..then had a couple get caught on my finger...ugh. :D All in all, it was fun.

superglue is definitely the way to go with that, cut my pinkie open first day I had my bk2, same deal. Knife wasn't fully in the sheath and it slid out, grabbed it with my hand.

I feel you. Bought a knife, came super sharp. Poked a divot in my thumb within 30 mins of opening the box.

Good job on the superglue.

Seriously, I've been meaning to learn how to do sutures given the medical cost of going to the doctor. Last time I needed stitches, about 3-4, I went to an after care place. I got my bill after insurance costs and it still came to about 250 dollars. Totally insane.

Let us know how the super glue works out..

We need pics.
For example
"My Becker gave me a little love bite today."

Super glue is always the answer! :) Seriously though... I kind of have a... disbelief in stitches. I don't think that they are ever necessary unless you are having like... internal surgery or something.

I've had loads of pretty significant injuries and I have yet to find one that couldn't be fixed with super glue and/or tape(medical, duct, electrical, doesn't matter)

what exactly do you do to super glue a wound shut?

Open the super glue and squirt it on your wound... it's seal up quickly. Rinse/wipe it off if possible and give it a good coat. If the injury is actively bleeding, it will react with the super glue and give you a funky looking coagulated blob as it dries... if the bleeding has stopped, it will just seal it over.

Lol, i thought i was the only person that used super glue. Ive had around 30 broken bones, over 200 stithes/staples, and have never found anything that works half as quick, and good, as super glue. It really shines, when you use it on your face. I glued my bottom lip back together, and it worked perfect. I had a nice cut in my eyebrow, and it worked amazing. I love the stuff!!!

AHH, so you didnt draw blood when you received the knife, now the knife cut you when you were not prepared. well you will be ok now, when i get a knife i poke myself with it intentionally. let my knife taste my blood. then its satisfied. I heard this old wives tale as a kid, my father gave my grandpa a nice knife, he imediaetly poked his finger and wiped the blood on the blade. i was like wow pops ur pyscho.....he explained but i still thought he was crazy. until i got my first sak at 6-7. my dad told me not to open a blade without closing the others. i didnt listen and sliced my finger to the bone. my father said had i listened or let my blade taste my blood it would of known its owner and not bite me. from then on i poke myself, now i guess im the crazy pyscho lol.

I got bit by my SAK a few months ago. I had to go to an urgent care because it had been so long since i had a tetanus shot. I asked the Dr there about superglue and he said its what he uses at home. Its practically the same as the Durabond they use in the medical world. I was surprised at how much it stings when you put it on. It wasnt unbearable or anything but surprising. It makes sense since the superglue is basically causing a chemical reaction to adhere itself to your skin (at least thats what it seems like to me). Superglue is good stuff. I have it in all my med kits. The cut below wasnt very long but pretty deep. I was using my SAK improperly and it folded shut on my finger and sliced right in with no effort. I emailed Victorinox and thanked them for their quality steel. lol. I guess its time to get a One-Handed SAK.

I have a friend who was a medic in the sandbox and now EMS in NYC, show me the "how to" suture on pig skin. So now I carry a minor suture kit with 3 pre-threaded needles in my BOB..compliments of the NYC EMS Department ;) Medical bills for several stitches are ridiculous..if you don't wanna use superglue !

when i first got my eskabar, i was trying to "fix" the sheath by repeatedly sheathing and unsheathing. i got impatient and stupid and ended up stabbing my finger.... wasnt TOO bad, no stitches needed, just a bandaid. left a nice little scar. it seems i have a scar from every knife i use.... ofcourse thats only 3... 1 from esky stab, only from finger still being in the path of the blade while closing (svord peasant) and one from accedental closing (camillus TL-29). none bad enough for stitches, but all left a scar.

Ouch! Hehehe!! Yea, most of the knives I've ever had have tasted my blood. Being a woodsman by trade, though, I get cut so often I don't pay any attention anymore. Slipped up doing a job some months ago, brought my axe back and sliced my thigh. Oh, super glue is a man's best friend (especially for practiced survivalists, cops, and soldiers)...fix stuff, stick stuff together..glue your teacher's ass to the chair..and best of all...close up cuts. No needles!! YAY!!! :D I hate needles.. Sutures aren't that difficult, and in my opinion should be a standard in first-aid training. They hurt though. I guess. You can get alot out of super glue, if you have the know how. Wound closure is one of the best uses though. (Oh, btw, duct tape is great for cutting into small butterfly strips--just as good as a stitch!)

My brother dropped my cold steel trail hawk with a convexed edge that was shaving sharp and tried to catch it. Haha, when he hit the handle it spun right into my thigh and went straight through my pants xD It was pretty deep!

I could be wrong but I thought there was a certain kind of superglue that should be used (not brand specific)...another type had an ingredient that wasnt recommended for closing up wounds

i use super glue too close cuts too, i think dupont makes durabond and regular super glue but i may be wrong.

I've only found this to be true with my KA-BARs, none of my el-cheapos have drawn blood. Helga (2) took a bite out of my thumb, and Becca (16) seems to like thighs.
