Hi all,
I'm glad to be here at Blade Forums today.
By the numbers :
April 22,2021, Maine, Snow Flurries, STRONG Winds with gusts up to 50 mph.
Driving this morning to take the Mrs. to Work in Portland (one day a week at Office) the remainder working from Home. My big plan for the day was to pick up my "Pawn Shop"
find "Ripple Edge/Ideal Products, Inc." (German made) Canadian (style) #1 Belt Knife
from the Shop in Portland, Maine which was to be (lightly polish) and sharpening the Knife.
Heading to Portland : Driving down Rt. 295 South : The following is a note I (later) sent the Maine State Troopers via their Facebook page "Messenger". I presently can not Comment/Like Publicly (as I am, yet again in "Facebook Jail) this time for 30 days. I wrote:
I wanted to say "THANK YOU" to the person(s) responsible for the Electronic Highway sign WARNING "CAUTION, WRONG WAY DRIVER!" Once being made aware of this situation, I IMMEDIATELY moved out of the "Fast lane" into the "right Hand" lane. Only moments after making that move, I saw a Car's Headlight heading towards my wife and I. I quickly pulled far over into the "Break down" lane and watch this Person pass us by driving upwards of 70 mph. I then watch in my rear view mirror as other Cars swerved out of the way of the on coming Car. I feared this wrong way driver/car would cause a tragic accident/outcome. I am relieved to (later) learn this was not the case and the situation ended without a tragic result. I'm still exhausted (after the fact) from the delayed "Adrenaline" dump. At any rate, please say a big "THANK YOU" to the person(s) responsible for posting that "WARNING" as it very well may have saved the life of both myself and my Wife. Too damn close!
T.P.S.
I was cool and calm as this situation was (about to/happening). Thankfully, I was able to think clearly and keep my wits about me. Only (shortly) after missing a potential HEAD ON, did I then start to feel a bit, shaky.
After dropping the Mrs. off at work, I proceeded to the Knife Shop to pick up my Knife. I relayed my near death experience to the Shop owner who listened to my account "WIDE Eyed". The Shop person then mentioned he had just traveled the same Highway and saw a Car pulled over into the "Highway Police Turnaround" area (along with a bunch of Police/Police Cars). Hearing this news, I felt some relief as I for sure thought this "Wrong Way" driver would cause a "Head on" fatal accident. Praise God, this was not the case.
So, my Knife (which was suppose to be ready today) had not yet been worked on. The Shop person felt awful about the delay and promised to have it ready next week. The Shop person said he wanted to make it up to me for the delay and "Gifted" me the following :
Man, what a day!
