Hello ! I've had this bad boy for about an year and a half and I've used it quite a bit.The black coating was pretty scuffed so today i decided to strip it using sandpaper. It turned up nice IMHO.I've also applied some 220 grit sandpaper to the micarta handle slabs - now they're nice and grippy.I've also rounded their corners a bit and they've become really comfortable and secure !I've applied some lemon juice to the blade and now it has some nice patina to prevent rust.Soon I plan to get a leather bowie-style sheath, because I'm not really a fan of the nylon one.. I've got the thumb ramp and extended tang grinded - they didn't worked for me. The BK-7 is a good knife - it's not that bad at choping and cuts great.Very easy to re-sharpen too,but the edge retention isn't great.I bring it hiking and camping and it hasn't failed me yet

Here are some pics :

That looks great! I have a 9, no 7 yet, and I've been wondering about removing the thumb ramp. Yours look great and well squared off, how difficult was it?
C

I got it removed by a friend of mine, who owns a grinder - took him no more than 10 min, with some pauses for letting the blade cool down - don't want to mess up the HT.It's much more comfortable that way - I tend to put my thumb on the spine a lot, especially when working on wood.

Nice mods. She looks like a user. Great pictures and welcome to the forums. I like my 7s rampless...

Eero - i like all my knives rampless , except for the folders, but i don't consider them "hard use" blades.
Ironborn - as far as I know ,there aren't any restrictions here (I hope this doesn't change in the future..) - you can carry all sizes of folders and fixed blades on your person.

The patina looks very nice. Good job on that. May I also comment that you are very bold battoning with sandals on hahaha.

Nice 7! I still have to get me one if those, now I'm wondering if I should remove the thumb ramp when I get it.

ugh, reminds me of my seven that got stolen a month ago. Guess I need to buy a replacement :D

May I also comment that you are very bold battoning with sandals on hahaha.

That's the way we do it here :D

NathanJ - the knife is IMHO a whole lot better without the ramp - it's more comfortable for the smaller tasks now, especially carving

Some action pictures of today - choping, batoning and a featherstick :) Stripping the blade and slightly convexing the secondary bevel prooved to be a good choice - the cutting ability is much improved now !

Hey - shoes on this time! :)

Welcome to the Forums. Your patina turned out really nice.

You're really making me reconsider the thumb ramp on my 7. I usually put my thumb there when I grab it, but not so much in use.
I have very few knives with a ramp, and expected I preferred them without. It's a fairly common mod. I've just been a little afraid I would miss it.
Hmmm - time to put the 40 grit on the worksharp and get to work.

Good looking workhorse of a knife! Just saw that you are in Bulgaria, welcome to the forums, love seeing the scenery there too. I saw a horse in one of the pics, are you on a ranch?

tjswarbrick - I'm glad you like the patina - this is my first time forcing one,all my other carbon steel knives have patina from use,but that lemon prooved to be excellent choice. The lemon is also homegrown and quite delicious - almost sweet in taste :D About the thumbramp - i really hate those things - I've sold a couple of fine knives who had one, because there wasn't a way of removing it without ruing the knife. With the Beckers the removing is easy and fast if you have the proper equipemen.

LeeBower - I live in a city, but also have a house in the countryside - that's where some of the pictures are taken.

I have to get some more Beckers :D I'm looking forward to getting a BK16,because it looks like a really great knife and currently I don't have any hard use knives in that size range - all of them are thin ground scandi grinds. Also I may get another Eskabar, because I sold mine after putting some thick G10 scales on it - the handle got really comfortable, but the overall weight of the knife made it unsuitable for neck carry,so it had to go...
