Well after much research and hesitation, I decided to strip and force patina my bk14.

Here's where I started.

This is the process I will be using. I though about using a stripper but have a sandblasted at my shop.

Handle came out a little darker than the blade. But overall I'm happy with the outcome

It is currently sitting stabbed into a grapefruit at the moment. I figured that I would leave it there for a few hours then soak it in some vinegar. I will report back

Glad to be back on the site. I took a short hiatus to keep me from buying knives. Haha. Looks like I'm going to have to get a 9

Looking good man! Can't wait to see the finished patina.

The handle is darker because kabar does a differential heat treat to keep the handle a little softer than the blade so it will flex not break. I think anyway. Lol.

Thanks man! Good info. I never knew that.

I think I'm going to soak it in some vinegar while wrapped in a towel after the grapefruit.

Here's the outcome after 12 hours in a grapefruit

Also got what seems to be actual rust. Correct me if I'm wrong. This is my first time doing this.
I took some steel wool to those areas and did a quick once over to the whole knife before I wrapped it.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for checking it out.

Yep thats red oxidation aka rust. Did you oil, clean and again oil the knife after the forced patina process? Looks like the acid is still working the metal. Nutting a lil steel-wool and wd40 can't fix!...although that might remove some of the patina as well

Amazing effect, looks like its been hit by an explosion!

Thanks guys. For now I am not going to to the vinegar. I am liking the current look of it.

I cleaned it then oiled it. I'm concerned with rusting as I have never had a finish like this before.

The red oxidation cleaned off but still left a brown stain. I'm assuming that's ok to leave there. I did not want to go to far with the steel wool , because I did not want to remove the patina.

Thanks for the advice and compliments guys.

nice work. when i stripped my 11 i had to polish out a crap load of tooling marks. did the sand blast smooth them out at all? or did it hide them? just curious.

I think the sandblaster smoothed out the tooling marks after I was done. It came out with a matte finish over the whole blade.
