My BK16 FPR on Thanksgiving

Finally got to test how the 16 FPR does as a hunting knife this past Thanksgiving day. Now the background story...8 days before I had helped track this deer after my friend, who I let hunt on my farm, shot him with his bow. We lost the trail that day. I finally found him during rifle season. He wasn't the buck I was originally hunting for, but when I saw this deer walking around with an arrow sticking out of his back I figured the best thing to do would be to go ahead and take the shot.
Now to the knife... I'm an avid hunter and love a good knife for the work that comes along with it. If anyone recalls I used my 11 and 2 back in the spring to cut up my wild turkey. I enjoyed that experience and have been anxiously waiting since then to try a becker on some big game. Well, the 16 didn't disappoint. It felt great in the hand, offered good grip, and was very maneuverable. I really like this size knife on deer. Most importantly for me, it retained a great working edge throughout the process. This knife might have just became my go to deer hunting knife. Although, I think I might just have to try the 15 on the next one for comparison purposes. The bottom line is if anyone is thinking about a tweener for deer then I say go for it.

That's GOTTA suck! 8 days with an arrow in your ass.

Nice though! Glad you like the 16.

I laughed so hard:D

To the OP: great story! I've been eyeing a ffg 16 too, and a 17, and a saber 16. Can't ge my head around to decide which one I should buy... It'll be something for the beginning of 2012 though, so I'll have some time to decide.
Glad you like the blade!

Yeah, I felt bad for him. I figured he would get infected and die a slow death. But to be honest he was right on the heels of 2 does when he crossed my path. So some of his parts were still functional. :) I was curious about where that arrow went so I carefully dissected it out. The shaft was lying throught his entire right backstrap with the broadhead in behind the shoulder blade. Amazing that he was getting around like he was. Tough animals.

I want to see the video of you processing the deer meat with that Becker! :)

Nice Buck!

Wish I had one for you all. I contemplated stopping at different points to take more pics, but didn't really want to get the mess on my electronics. I was out there by myself so I didn't have a camera man. Maybe next time.

Was there any infection started? You would think that after 8 days with an arrow in him he would be getting a pretty good infection going. If so, I'd chalk it up as a loss and not take the chance on eating any of it. I've shot a few that had been previously shot were pretty badly infected and smelled horrible. NO way that I was eating the meat. I contacted the G&F after I harvested one and they were able to issue me a new tag.

ETA: Give your buddy a headslap for me for taking such a horrible shot. No idea what he coulda been thinking taking a shot with an arrow from the back? I'd much rather miss an opportunity on a deer than to injure one by taking a dumb shot.

I would have a serious talk with whoever took such a poor shot at the animal, no reason for it... I bow hunt, when the shot isn't good don't shoot. Glad you were able to put it down and salvage the meat.
