My BK24 arrived. Thanks, Mooze45. Between work and family I have not had any time to play yet. I did take a few pictures. I am going to make some scales for it and give it a good work out. I will update here when I do. I love my 11 so I never really thought about the 14 but I think I am going to like this handle. I know I will like the D2.

A few shaving from the osage orange branch I am going to make the handle slabs from.

I cut it on a hike last weekend It was dead and dry. Want some? I would send you some no problem.

Thats deffinately a beauty! Keep us updated on how it does, if you dont mind? I'm looking for a 14 for my 6 year old, but I think it would be best to start with 1095 for ease of sharpening.

I got the handle done this weekend. I like it but it might get modded a little.

That Osage orange sure is hard.
I am going to make a new bow drill set next.

Wow that blade looks great and the scales set it apart even further.

Once again congrats on the new steel. I am looking forward to your findings with wear, ease of sharpening and edge retention.

Those came out really good, I'm digging the look of the wood and steel combo. Very nice

After general use including Making a bow drill set, shaving Osage orange , Hickery , cedar and some fire prep. The BK24 has lost it's facatory edge. It was still sharp enough to use but not shaving sharp. It has been my experience with D2 that once it has lost it's "shaving" edge that it will hold a useable edge for a long time. Very useful in a knife you might need but not be able to hone in the field.
Now I will use it and my 11 and see how the 1095 holds up compared to the D2.

I wanted to test the edge retention of the Becker D2. I thought a good way would be to cut up some cardboard with it and my Camillus BK11 , Kabar BK11 and of course my Dozier knife. The results surprised me. I know their could be some flaws in my little test. All I did was sharpen the knives so they would easily slice printer paper. Count how much cardboard they cut before they could no longer slice the paper. All the cardboard was the same size and held same way cutting through the "Rib"
The players.

The results...
Dozier D2 75
Camillus BK11 0170-6c 51
Kabar BK24 D2 @59-60 RC 63
Kabar BK11 1095CV 83 :D
I know Kabar 1095 is good stuff but dam. My thought is it might have cut better because the edge has been convexed and is a little thinner. Also I have used this knife alot and the coating has held up great but cutting the cardboard has wore it off more then anything else I have done.

Very interesting results, the 24 is definitely going to be in my sights when it is released.

I really like the stonewashed finished on the 24. D2 steel is awesome too.

So which one won the cutting contest? the dozier is on top but then you comment on the kabar bk11...
