Hey Y'all,

I'm a few posts away from qualifying for Beckerhead-dom, but in reading the FAQs it says to intro and post a few pics, so here ya go.

I've had my BK9 for 7 or 8 years I think. I use it all winter long for making kindling for the fireplace. Here's what it looked like before a few hours ago:

And here's a few after the face lift. Stripped and lightly polished. Would've liked to have really polished it mirror-like, but I was doin' it all by hand and the lowest grit paper I had on hand was only 600. Anyway, did what I could with what I had. Hope you like it:

That's one badass Becker. Thanks for sharing!

Love that look, and good work by the way, awesome ass blade, brother.

Thanks for the compliments y'all. I love my Beckers! I also have 2 BK2s, one each for mine and my wife's "Get Home Bags" in our cars. May or may not do the same thing to them. They don't get used nearly as much as the 9, so both of their coatings are still fairly pristine, so I don't have to worry about keeping the exposed metal oiled up like I did with the 9 anyway.

As far as the stripping, y'all probably already know the easiest way to do it, but just FYI, I used CitrisStrip, and it was a helluva lot easier than I expected actually. Just used a paint brush to spread the gel all over the knife and handle (with scales removed obviously), and used a scraper to get most of the black off, and a wire brush to get the rest off. Hosed it off, and that was it. It soaked with the gel on it for about 2 hours. Actual "work" was less than 30 minutes, maybe even less than 20 minutes. I spent maybe another hour with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper trying to work towards a mirror polish, but saw that I'd still be working on it through most of next year at the pace I was going and gave up for the time being. Cleaned it, light coat of oil, put the scales back on, took the pics and what you see is the hour and a half worth of work result.

If there's anything "wrong" with the knife now, it's that it doesn't show what a user it is. I kind of liked that worn look. On the other hand, I am anxious to see how much less it sticks while batoning kindling. It seems it would have to be a lot more slippery now.

Oh well, if I want another black and silver-ish one, I guess I'll just have to buy another one and use it! :D

Hey, thanks a lot for the great pictures! Looks like my idea of a Becker Photo Contest isn't all that bad... I think I want a 9 now too...

Seeing all these stripped 9s I definitely have to strip mine. And honestly I like the non-mirror plain finish, Beckers are rugged knives and a mirror finish sort of defeats that in my opinion. Great job!

I really like the scuffed up all black look, but the more of these I see the more I like them.

I can see mine being stripped in the future.
