Well, I have been really enjoying my BK9 lately, but I had to finish tweaking it to my taste's. First, I stripped off that pesky blade coating..I HATE blade coatings..I believe they slow down a blades cutting ability.
I want a new sheath..the factory sheath is fine..I actually like the big pocket, as it fits my Leatherman just fine. But a nice leather one might be in the works.:D
Next..it was time for an order from TOMAR'S, for some new handle slabs..then, for a little GKN tweaking.
I took some rubber roofing I had in my trailer at work, and traced the slabs..carefully cut them out with shears..used my hole punch for the bolt holes..and wallah! I have a padded and thicker handle..just what the doctor ordered for a guy with big mits like me. I do have to mention, the stock bolts were now to short..so a trip to the hardware store, and some 3/4" stainless 10-32's and I was all set. Well worth the $2.65!
So, here you go..time to go beat on this awesome survival knife.

I've had a similar idea with a rubber type liner, keep us updated on how it works out! The concerns I heard from some makers were expansion and contraction in the hot/cold.

Nice job.

Looks like a totaly different knife.

There's a BK 2 that's been stripped on here too. Like it. May have to do it to one of mine. Did you use stripper or sand it ? Looks like a fadded kind of finnish? How much for the handles if you don't mind me asking ?

Badass blade, GKN, love that stainless hardware look. She's ready and willing, gonna have to take it out and get some action shots now, LOL.

you got your rubbers on, and a hot in hand, get to it :)

i'm liking the idea of bolt on liners. mmm. there's a product idea for someone with a die cutter :)

Now, Now Joe..that is my idea..I do believe that I am the first to do this to a Becker (as far back as my memory goes)
Also, rubber makes great tinder...
Fehrman knives has been doing this for a while..but I can't remember how my First Strike slabs were attached.
I can tell you, it feels awesome, and I will go out tomorrow, and beat on it.
Thanks to all the comments.

Great looking knife buddy. I've found that fatter grips like micarta stop the factory blade retention snaps from closing. But this is no biggie as a local shoe repair guy mods them for me cheaply.
