Blade 2002 was my first ever all knife show to attend. I have attended the mega Gun/Knife show in Tulsa on multiple occasions, but this was just a totally different expirience. The atmosphere of Blade is something that must be felt and experienced by every knife nut. Everyone there is friendly and fun loving, down to earth and great to deal with. To sum it up, I had a blast.

Came in Thursday afternoon and showed up to the Galleria (where Blade was held) and the Waverly Hotel lobby. I met lots of great knife nuts and knife makers. I ran into Gus, Samhell, Maurice, Kit Carson, Liong Mah, Rob Simonich, Ed Fowler, Yodel, Bob Porter, Joel Pirela, Bob Doggett, and a host of others I simply can't remember.

Friday was the opening bell and I was the first non-exhibitor pass holder to make it through the front doors. The opening dash to the tables was really awesome. I wasn't agressive enough and allowed myself to be pushed out of the way of the table I was the first to step up to. And for those who met and seen me, that had to take some heavy duty pushing :D That was perfectly fine with me, as the first table I hit was Mike Snody and everyone there wanted his folders. I just wanted a fixed blade, so the exact one I wanted was still there when I made my way to the front of the table. Mike and Michelle were great to deal with, I will definately be a customer again.

I then stopped over at the Badlands and picked up 2 from Rob Simonich. Buying Rob's knives is only half the fan, as he is one crazy character.

I don't exactly remember what tables I hit next, but I ended up with a GenO Denning Black Widow, several Wayne Hendrix skinners, Mike Obenauf model 2 (that was an order I was picking up), Dick Atkinso folder, Gavin Dickerson folder (one hell of a value at the price) 2 kitchen knives from Murray Carter and an awesome fixed blade fighter/bowie from ABS journeyman smith Al Lawrence. I am attatching the picture of this beauty, as I am extremely proud:

Saturday was much calmer, as I had most of the buying out of my system. A couple of the knives I picked up were bought on Saturday, I just can't remember which of the ones i previously listed.

Saturday is the big day for demos and semminars. I only attended 2 semminars, the Les Robertson/Bob Neal custom knife semminar and the Sharp Man semminar held my Jerry Fisk and John Fitch.

Bob and Les provided some excellent info and insight into the world of buying, selling, and collecting custom knives. This free semminar was very worth while extremely informative.

The sharp man demo/semminar (deminar?) was one of my favorite parts of the weekend. For those who have never had the pleasure of being around Mr Fisk and Mr. Fitch, you are missing out. Half the fun of the semminar was listening to Jerry mouth off to big John. They did some demos of some of the tests that take place in the cutting competition. Chopping a 2X4 in half, cutting rope, and various ways of cutting soda cans were all part of the amazing demo.

Sunday I didn't go to the show, as I had to get to the airport and catch my flight. It was an amazing weekend, one I will never forget.

I am attatching a pic of Jerry from the demo:

Great pictures Jeremy.

I managed to pick up a Fitch bowie and love it. My first really big knife (10" blade) with great balance.

I missed this seminar. Looks like a missed a good'n.

Hey Jeremy, nice pics. Especially the one where you got a nice pic of my wife's blonde head! :)
