On Friday, I picked up a Busse combat grade Mr. Mojo. This thing is pretty nice. They didn't have any of the kydex sheaths for it on hand so one of the guys working the booth actually sold me his personal sheath and said that Jerry could reimburse him. I didn't get the guy's name but if he's reading this, "Thanks. You 'da man!!".
I picked up a few Grecos last year and I really like his knives so I saw a couple more I wanted this year but was afraid I would be unable to get them because I had a "lack of funds". We went back on Sunday as they were tearing everything down and John had a 50% off sale on everything on his table so I picked up a La Duena and a cool little short sword that has a 14" blade.
Now, for the piece de resistance....
The reason I was low on funds was because I was picking up a custom from Jerry Hossom on Sunday. I had Jerry make a wakizashi for me. It is similar in style to his millennium machetes but with a traditional Japanese style blade and a hand and a half handle. This thing is SWEET!!! If you have ever held any of Jerry's knives, you know what I mean, and this short sword is no exception. He said he got lots of rave reviews on it at the show and had offers for a good deal more than what he sold it to me for!!! Thanks, Jerry. You da man!!!
I have a picture of it that Jerry emailed to me if anyone can post it for the Hossom fans I will email it to you. It may be on his site...

Peace-

Owen-
Just sent the pic to you... Thanks!!!
I did get some cool stuff and had a great time. I actually bought stuff that I had on a "to get" list at this show. In the past I have always been a victim of impulse buying. It's hard not to do that because you see so much cool new stuff!!!!
My only disappointments about the show was the absence of Mineral Mountain, Cold Steel and Trace Rinaldi. Hopefully, MMHW and Trace will be there next year...
Uh-oh... my Hossom blade needs some attention.... gotta scat!!

I certainly saw that piece. Mr. Hossom's ability to make those incredibly long blades with the perfection usually reserved for smaller pieces is just amazing.

AGREED!! I got to hold that one and could not believe how light it was for it size and how well balanced it was. Hossom was beaming because he could see how impressed I was . . . unfortunately, I was more impressed than financed!!

Orion, are you going to do any cutting tests with the Wakizashi? If so, please be sure to come in to the Sword Forum and let us know how it does!

Lucky bastard!

I raved about that blade when Jerry sent me a pic of it in progress, and if I remember right, Jerry wouldn't agree to make one for me, I don't remember why. Those circumstances may have changed by now, anyway. I'm rambling, but the bottom line is, I would pay good cash money for one of those of my very own if I could! Lucky bastard!

I could be wrong but I think Jerry had quite a time doing this one. I ordered it right after Blade Show last year and it was supposed to be ready by Christmas. He had problems with the grind on the first attempt and had to start over. I think this was his first shot at doing a blade with this type profile and from hearing him talk I deduced that it was a bear for him. That may be why he is reluctant to do another one... He can give better details than I can. Regardless, we were both pleased at how it finally came out.
I am reluctant to cut anything with it....!!!! I may just lock it up in a glass case!!!!

Jerry had some really great knives at the show. You just have to hold one to appreciate the weight and balance on his knives. I added one of his fighters and a Bronco to my collection.

What a great show.

Cam, I'm glad you like it. You can certainly cut with it. Anything that gets dinged I can fix. That blade is not going to break. Despite the fact that the sword weighs just 24 oz, the spine is 3/16" thick to within 4" of the point. Snapping that while holding it in your hands would be nearly impossible.

The grinding wasn't too bad after a few hours of Zen meditation. The first one I screwed up was simply that, a moment's lapse in concentration and poof, scrap iron! I like the way this one came out and will be making more. In fact I have two larger ones in CPM-3V awaiting the proper alignment of the planets and stars, and a whole LOT of Zen.

Just for contrast... the smallest Hossom knife on the table went home with me... due to Jerry's generosity.

Thank you, Jerry!

Jerry, you are definitely "THE MAN" and I can't thank you enough for this magnificent peice of work. I have looked for so long for the perfect short sword, mostly production models such as the Ontario Blackwind models and some HI kukris (long, thin models) and many of them were OK but after handling your work at Blade 2000 I knew I had found the guy to make what I wanted. I am definitely pleased with the final product.
I want to cut something with it, but at the same time, something in me would DIE if I got a single scratch on this blade... we'll see.....
When I have referred to this thing I have always called it "Millennium Wakizashi" in homage to the names of many of your other models but I think you should officially name it something utilizing the word ZEN!!!!

Well now, there's a subject that's worthy of an entire separate thread.
