This show fell too close on the heels of Blade and the ABS Expo for me to go too crazy, but I did come home with a one that is precious to me ---- a shortsword by Raymond Richard:

It's a monster with a forged 18" blade of 1084 and 24.5" overall. Curly Maple handle and wrought iron fittings.

Next to a tape, just to show you the size:

And here's a quick updated Ray Richard collection shot, slowly but surely growing:

I actually stayed at Raymond and Jackie's home while at the show. I can't thank them enough for their hospitality and kindness to me. We had a ball talking knives and "life in general." I now know better why Raymond's knives are so unique and appealing --- they are a reflection of his character. He's not only a great maker, he's also a gentleman.

Thanks again for a great weekend Ray

I saw the handle and was like "Ahh cool you scored a nice bowie!" then scrolled down and was like "HOLY CRAP it's a big one!". Nice scores Eli!

That's a very nice collection - I especially like the bowie and would like to hear more about it. Thanks for sharing,

Austin

Eli,
You SUCK!!! Man those are some fine pieces of steel... Wish I could have been down but you know why I couldn't.

Beautiful Pieces Bro,
Russ

UnF-ingbelievable. What a fantastic knife.

That one "The Prophet" is up there in my all time favorite knives and my favorite of Ray's.

Beautiful collection.

That is an absolutely amazing piece! The work involved in forging and finishing it must have been astronomical.
A real testament to the makers skill...

All you need now is a Zombie invasion:o

Great looking knives.. I love Raymond's work, especially that bowie with the stag you got there.

Thanks for all the compliments :D

Great looking!  Congrats.

How does it feel/handle?

Guy, it handles/feels awesome. Ray forges a strong distal taper into most of his blades, this one included, so it's incredibly light for it's size. My wife and both children remarked about this when they first picked it up. Think green vegetation, not hardwood chopper.

Also, Ray built the handle fairly large, it's amazing how much versatility that gave the knife. When you choke up next to the guard, it feels like a fighter with rear balance (due to the heaviness of the butt of the knife?) But if you choke back, it feels blade heavy and more like a chopper/machete.

Both grips are quite comfortable, and easy to switch back and forth from, just in case you ever had to chop and fight intermittently :D

Eli it was good to meet you. And that is one fine looking one hand sword.

Dave, t was great to meet you too, and to get a closer look at your work. You had some beautiful knives. I'm sorry to have missed out on that Damascus take down fighter, but I'm not surprised it sold quickly. I hope to see you again soon.
