I know there are a ton of BJ reviews already but who cares...here's mine!!

After three months to the day, my DC BJ has finally arrived!! Now part of the wait was my "fault" because I asked for the CG initially then changed my mind right before it was to be made which I guess pushed me to the back of the line.

Anyway, the only pics I can (read: know how to ) post are from my cell phone which will pretty much suck and insult the image of this blade so I won't do it. Maybe if I can figure out how to use the memory card in my digital camera in my net book's slot I'll get a few up.

Let's see where to start???...

I guess the box... it was your standard issue priority flat rate box, inside was a bunch of paper and what looked like some left-overs. After getting the plastic wrap off, there it was with the cardboard sheath over it.

All I could see was the grip/handle at first. It looked like money...and I don't mean that figuratively. The shading of the black canvas looks like they took currency pulp and formed it into micarta grips. I took it by the handle and immediately fell in love with this thing. It felt amazing in my hand. Perfectly balanced. Not too big. Not too small. From what I can tell it's the perfect size for a daily use blade.

Next I took the cardboard off. The blade, while absolutely beautiful seemed somewhat decorative if that makes sense. That is, pretty to look at but not something I was used to edge/geometry-wise other than with butter knives. I'm pretty sure the only other blade I have that would match it would be the Izula but even that I'd have to pull it out to see.

Initially I was pretty pissed about the edge because I specifically asked for it to be good and sharp. Here's the thing...it wouldn't cut the packing paper it came with...I mean at all!! However, it shaved my arm just fine. Not quite sure what is up with that but whatever, I'm sure I can improve it to some degree (no pun intended). But obviously it WAS sharp just not sharp enough for my taste.

Quick question here....why do the grips sound like and appear to have the structural integrity of ceramic?? The only other canvas I have is my ESEE-5 and those sound like particle board and are somewhat softer. Does Micarta vary significantly brand to brand or what??

As far as the design of the knife though...easy 9.5 out of 10. Only thing that would kick it up to perfect in my opinion is a more pronounced/sharp tip. But that's not within the design of this knife. It ain't a bowie.

Choil is excellent and allows for a great choke up. Fit nicely into my Mashed Cat sheath as well. I do think I'll order the drop leg attachment for it though because the handle jabs me in the side.

It was hard to put the thing down to type this up because it feels THAT good in my hand and is THAT beautiful to look at. I'll be calling or emailing Lexi tomorrow to snag a tanker w/tan canvas TGLBS.

I hesitate to use this because of how nice it is, but tomorrow I'll be putting it through some of it's paces out back. On the menu will be some wood to split, maybe a little light chopping just to see what it can do there, a little whittling, and then we'll finish it off on my arm or face to see if it is still shaving sharp.

Anyway, that's my overall first impression. Please feel free to ask questions or take a stab at the ones I asked.

Thanks for viewing!!:)

As for the micarta it seems to me the primary difference is that its machined from busse and its left more unfinished on the esee knives. Almost a sandblasted finish to esee's micarta.

Finally  amirite?

Just to clear up any confusion, the Combat Grade BOSS Jacks were offered with the double cut finish, so yours is still a Combat Grade unless you asked for a custom one of course, which I don't think you did.

Glad you like it.

You have 24 hours to post cool pics or be branded a phoney forever!!! ;)

Boss Jack is awesome. It is the only Busse I can think of that the acronym doesn't really work. Fat ASH being the best Busse moniker IMO.

The micarta DOES vary. Jerry has spoken about this before and with some good google-fu I'm sure you could dig it up. I'd do it for you but I'm terribly busy drinking beer at the moment.

As for the choil. You may be in the minority. A lot of guys like the no-choil option. But I'm with you on the boss jack. I prefer a choil on a knife over 5 inches so I can choke up on the blade. It adds versatility to the blade IMO and is greatly preferable in hunting/field dressing application, which could be vital in any survival situation... or while I'm killing things.

Now go USE that knife... I guarantee you CANNOT hurt it! And better yet... if you DO... Jerry guarantees it for life. Busse's aren't made to be safe queens.

I remember seeing a thread here a few months back with the title that goes something like "Bid farewell to the BOSS Jack..." Can you still order BOSS Jack from Busse?

Congratulations! the BOSS Jack is one of my favorite fixed blade and all around knife.

Cheers
