I have a decent compound PSE bow fitted with Martin cams. It's actually a decent bow but the camo sucks! I was thinking of lightly sanding followed by a primer and finally a brown/olive spray paint camo job.

Anyone have any ideas? Any reccomendations for a quality paint that will hold up in abuse and foul weather?

Don't do it, that's the only good advise I have! Go and buy youself some new Cams! If you remove the paint, you'll soften the material the the bow is made of, so it'll break afterwards when you shoot it again.

My one and only compound was a Browning when they were still 45" ata. I used a litely textured fuller obrien product that I got from a painter friend of mine. I had it pigmented by a shop in OD, muted tan and lite gray, then brushed it on in a woodland type pattern. I gave the bow away several years later and the finish was just starting to chip a little from hard field use. Sorry, but I can't remember the name of the product.

Another friend of mine did up his old Bear compound with acrylic and it seemed to last ok, but scratched pretty easy.

I cleaned the surface to cut the oils and such prior to adding the new finish. It'll last a lot better if you do.

Nic,

You are not saying your cams are painted camo are you?If your talking the bow that the camo sucks im not sure you would be able to replace it and have the new stuff be as strong.

What sucks about the camo?I shoot a Hoyt and mine is Mossy oak real tree camo,I think it looks sweet.
My brother in law just got a Reflex and its that floor camo,it also looks cool.

Any paint will work well if you intend to make it permanent. ( However, H.S. makes some good removable paint that is available through most hunting stores as well as a permanent variety in all drab colors.) Just be sure and tape off working parts. Axles, cams, e-clips, limb pockets, etc. The easiest way to get a design is to pick a common foliage for your area and use it to stencil a design to break up the background color. Just don't think you have to do it all in one coat! I used to paint target bows for guys at a range I worked at in college each year when hunting season rolled around. The main thing I learned is that it is a TON easier when you have a bow press but it can be done without dissassembly if you are careful!

I just want to paint the limbs and the riser. Mossy Oak is awesome but the goobers that painted my PSE did it in black and gray urban camo!! I feel like a wanker in the woods! Cut to Arnold Governator “It’s using the trees…”

I just want an olive drab and browns. I’m thinking spray paint and unless anyone has any better ideas I’ll just give her a coat of primer and then paint.

Hey Nic,I see your from Seattle.I have a friend there, past vice pres. of the state bow assc. editor of the news letter etc.He is also a friend of Glen St.Charles(founder of Pope+Young) do you belong to the state bow hunters assc?

Have you ever been to Northwest archery? Home of the old p+y museium?

That was a cool place. :)

As far as camo,my bow is 15 years old made before they painted them camo.None of the deer I've killed seemed to mind. ;) My friends wood recurves are well wood color. This year when he came back east to hunt, had his 8 pt. the second day.

To me camo is cool, but low on my list.If given the choice of hunting in camo and not showering with scent free soap and using scent killer spray.Or using the scent free soaps and spray and hunting in blue jeans.I'd skip the camo.
