My boy just called and told his mother and I that he was awarded at SMSU the "Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Thielmann Chemical Education Award". This award is given to the senior with the highest GPA with a chemistry education major.

Thank God he's smarter then an old missouri hillbilly metal masher.

Nanc and I extend our warm congratulations to both Billy and the proud parents. Quite an honor!! We wish him a bright and happy future. I am personally very happy he stuck with the chemistry throughout his Bachelor's.

That's great!!!!! ;) :D Glad to see he takes after his Mother. HEHEHEHEHE!!

Thanks everyone,

Fitz I'll be sure and pass your comments along, you and him talking when you were here played a hugh part in his decision. As you know his freshman year was a bit shaky, but he pulled it all together. He won't graduate until December, for he still has to student teach this next fall, but in December he will graduate with a chemistry/physics Ed major. From there he plans on teaching and going for his masters, then possibly his doctorate. He can be a chemistry tech also with the degree he'll have at graduation but he tells us now he'd like to be a chemistry professor. He has many choices which is a very good thing, he's worked hard and we are super proud of him.

My congratulations to you and your son.

BTW - Metal Mashing is nothing but applied chemistry and physics.

Thanks stacy.

You mean to tell me, he could have stayed home and made knives for the last 4 years and accomplished the same thing. Why didn't someone tell me this sooner. I could have went fishin. :D :D :D

I think "Professor Buxton" has a nice ring to it, Bill. If that is the path he chooses then we hope it is filled with happiness and fulfillment for him. If Billy chooses to follow a career as a high school chemistry teacher then he will be fulfilling an equally important role inspiring the chemists of the future. I'll never forget my two high school chem teachers. It takes a special calling to be a good teacher.

I am very happy if that afternoon chat I had with Billy influenced his life in a positive way. Thanks for mentioning it.

Nanc and I are very happy for all three of you. I know you've all had to work hard for this. We put a sticky on our calender about his graduation in December. :)
