This is my first real Spyderco...I've had a Ladybug on my keychain for about 2yrs now but I dont count that...After some general feedback from you guys & reading some of the various Spyderco topics I ordered a Spyderco Delica(Plain edge/VG10)from www.knifeworks.com The shipping & handling was $6 bucks for one knife...a little high but since they didnt screw up my order I can live with it...

The knife is really nice...Its the perfect size for EDC...It's thin...super light & pretty sharp...I sliced thru paper & cardboard with ease and even tried it out on an Aluminum can...Pretty much went thru it like butter with only slight pressure...The opening is pretty smooth & I can already flick it open just as fast as a thumb stud(which I'm used to)...Not bad at all...

The only thing I dont like about the knife is the tip-up carry...The knife should give you the option of mounting the clip on the other end...Are all Spydies like that ?? I removed the pocket clip & it did feel a little better in my hands but I decided to put it back on because I'm not sure how I'm going to carry it...

Overall...I'm pretty pleased...not excited though...I guess since the knife is so light it doesnt feel like it has much substance to it...I guess I really have to make my final decision on the Spyderco after I start carrying & using the knife for awhile...Any comments ?? Thanks...

Well frist of all the 204 will handle any sharpening.IMO the pre 98 Delicas are made better but the new ones should not give any trouble as long as they are used as intended. As far as tip up goes I like it better than tip down but I allways carry in my right front pocket with the blade against the side of the pocket so there is really no way for it to open by accident. If you really want tip down you can go with the ss version or in an FRN handle the calypso Jr is very simaler the the Delica and SMKWs(eknifeworks.com)has them in SE for 24.95 great price I am going to be up there Fri and will probably get one. They also have the co-pilot PE for 29.99.

>"...In my honest opinion It doesnt seem like this knife is built real well...My buddy has a Spyderco Co-Pilot with the stainless handles & it seems like its built like a tank... [snip]
I guess since the knife is so light it doesnt feel like it has much substance to it...kinda like a toy."

"<i>doesnt seem like</i>" and "<i>doesnt feel like</i>" aren't exactly measurable observations. To each his own, I guess. Personally, I would trust any of Spyderco's frn handled knives in any situation, including your lightweight Delica. And while the stainless models have additional heft, they can also be more slick in the hand when wet.
