I really love this blade and finally pulled the trigger after about a year, this is my very first Emerson knife and I'm not dissapointed. These are out of stock on all of my regular sites and thanks to a fellow forum member I now have this awesome blade. The first thing I did when I took it out of the box is take it apart and cleaned it because it was very stiff right off the bat. I oiled it up and messed with the pivot a bit and it's smoother now and hopefully will be even smoother once it breaks in a bit more.

Here's the pictures of my latest acquisition:

my favorite emerson! I had my edge convexed and it cuts like a dream. All I've ever had to do in the year I've owned it is strop it to keep a working edge. It def. gets better with time. I don't know what it is with emersons, but whatever issues you have when they first arrive seem to work themselves out as you use it. Mainly, blade centering

I just hope it smooths out a bit because it's ridiculously stiff and I don't wanna mess with the pivot anymore, I have it at that perfect point where it's centered and has little blade play.

Don't worry, it will. They come way too stiff with some sort of gross pond muck in the pivot, but once its cleaned and broken in, it will be pretty much perfect. My Mini Commander came that way and has broken in to become an awesome knife. The stickiness and centering both fixed themselves, mine is super smooth with literally zero play.

Coincidentally, just ordered my Horseman this morning :D thanks to this forum a member directed me to somewhere where they were still in stock! Once I get a Mini CQC-15 I should be done for a little while. Does yours have the ridiculously coarse G10 that appears to be standard on the 2012 models? My Mini-Commander was like an emery board before a lot of sanding.

Glad to here it's gonna smooth out. That's cool you will deffinitely love the Horseman the ergos are amazing as well as a great blade shape for many different uses. Yeah the G10 is really coarse on my Horseman especially since I'm used to Kershaw and Spyderco's G10 which is low to medium traction.

my 2012 g-10 is like that on cold steel folders, but i wear slick work pants, so i need that extra grip, As far as your horseman nice score! I have a cqc-8 in the same configuration, but it got kicked outta my pocket when my cqc-15 showed, up. I have a ritual with every new emerson i buy, I take pocket clip off, and bend in for a little more retention, (slick work pants), Then i take the knife apart, wipe all that black gunk off of everything, then apply tuff glide to the liners, blade, and pivot, and then shes good to go it still may take some time to break in but it gets most the grittyness out. I may even put some more tuff glide in the pivot once shes back together, if it still hasn't smoothed out, you don't haft to use that brand of lubricant, anyone will do and work just fine , I just use tuff glide because it's a lube and it resists rust. Gonna ad this that g-10 is a dirt , lint , whatever magnet and man all my handles look either dirty , or covered in white lint , (work pants) and they are a PITA to clean too. Thats my only grip with emersons g-10 its like a friggin magnetic duster.

Thats a sweet knife. Very reminiscent of the CQC-8.

Its actually also referred to as the mini cqc-8. The horseman is a smaller version of it. :)

Congrats on a great looking knife! I'd second taking that bad boy apart and cleaning whatever gunk is in there, it will definitely smooth out after that!

Congrats on your Horseman, Ben! You will find the Horseman to be a very useful pattern.

@ Allen - I use a toothbrush and some Windex to clean the G-10 and it looks like new.

I also use tuf glide on all of my knives.

Gonna try that cause my handles look like i buried them in the ground for a week then dug them up, then tried to wipe the dirt off with toilet paper

Just got my Horseman in, and it was love at first sight - it's without a doubt the most comfortable knife I have ever handled. And to all the naysayers, the fit and finish is pretty much perfect.

Congrats on your new Emerson, Misanthropia! As you mentioned a comfortable grip, I have yet to find a knife that equals an Emerson in that department, with the possible exception of a Buck 110. Enjoy your Horseman.
