It's a hobby of theirs, along with painting and sketching. I didn't know it until this past weekend. Mostly they make folders, but my brother is working on a medium Bowie.

He has a huge saw blade from a lumber mill that he uses for blade material. I plan to see if I can get him to build a Bowie for me, if I supply the other parts. I plan for it to be a coffin handle with scrimshawed Ivory Micarta grips. My brother is a pretty good artist, also.

My total cost of parts should be well under $60 and I bet he won't charge his big brother mIt'such for a chunk of that old saw blade and the spare time labor.

Keep in mind when paying them for this bowie, that a lot more goes into a custom bowie knife than just a "chunk of that old saw blade and spare time labor".

The saw blade is probably made of L6 steel which is extremly tough but will rust like the dickens if not cared for. The old Gerber MKII was also made of
L-6 and the one I have is showing just a very little tarnish but I keep it wiped up with TUF-CLOTH.
