UPDATE:

For those that gave their support financially and morally = thank you.

I thank you. My brother thanks you. The gift humbled him greatly.

Also, a special thanks to Sarge and Phil for "championing the cause".

However, my brother has still not found the job he needs. He thought he had it in the bag, but then got sacked at the last minute (actually, they lowered their initial offer by 30% and he couldn't accept it).

Your prayers are appreciated. Hopefully, this will be set straight soon.

I have cleaned out much of what I consider "extra" and hope I won't have to take it to the next level. But if I should, I pray I'm courageous enough to do it.

You all have helped keep me going.

Dan

Smoke will go up. It's just a temporary setback and you'll both recover.

He ain't heavy, Father. He's my brother.

Prayers are being sent, everything will be all right Pen.

Your'e a good guy that counts for alot !!

:)

Everybody goes through hard times, but not everybody goes through them with dignity and grace. Keep the faith Dan, I'm sure better days are coming.

As mentioned, hard times make you appreciate good times. And many times what we view as curses turn out later to be blessings in disguise.

I actually have a firm grip on this belief already...

However, (on a related note) it's still hard to imagine how not standing still outside...staying in your car at the gas station...avoiding restaurants and public shopping areas at dawn/dusk... ...how all of this could somehow be for my benefit?

Faith is indeed difficult to gain, as well as maintain.

That said, my problems seem small compared to my brother's and even his seem small compared to the families of the sniper's victims. Perspective helps, I guess.

note of interest - I just got a call from my sister to tell me the results of the annual "drawing of names for christmas" (family tradition). I have this same brother...(FWIW, I have 5 brothers and 3 sisters, so I have to distinguish for my own sanity :D )

It seems christmas came a little early this year (the rest of my family does not know about the "gift").

Maybe at a later time, I'll tell the story of the gift I made for him years ago as a child - it's quite amusing but too hard to tell right now.
