Took a buddy to the blade show in Atlanta this year, my first one. He never carried a knife, tried to give him one several times and he always said "I wont use it."
He found out I was going, I didn't invite him because I didn't think he was interested but he told me "I'd like to go to that!"
So off we went, we both have a pocket full of money, spent about 4 hours there and you know what knife he chose to come home with ? The Honey Badger Claw. I asked him, "Out of the thousands of knives you looked at, why this one?" His answer: "Man this knife is cool!"
I said "Man I tried to give you knives all the time but you never took them, said you wouldn't use them. Why ?" His answer: "I wanted to pick out my own first knife"

He finally got it dull and I sharpened it for him last night.
That's what makes knives so great I guess, there's something for everyone.

That's awesome that he got to choose from such a large selection for his first!

I sent my buddy a recon4 and a tops badger to carry while he is on the rig (long haul trucker). Of course I told him to send the tops back if he ever want to get rid of it.

I can see how that would be useful at times, (pull-cutting rope, for example) but not being able to cut against anything; that's a major downfall.
Talk him into something more practical, next go-round.

Emhpasis is mine. For a folder, to me 'practical' means small to medium size slipjoints. Anuthing that does not fit Altoids box (about 3.5") has questionable practicality, and vast majority of knives admired by the forum members are too big to go into because they are bigger, longer and bulkier wonders that need to have clips to be somehow bearable to be EDC. My point is, to me the priacticality is not the first consideration for vast majority of us, and nothing wrong with that; otherwise all this knife stuff will be kinda boring.
