he sent me an off line message saying he tried 3 times to log in and each time his browser locked up. he is running windows 7 and has never had any problems before. i'll get with him later and see if he was able to log in.

Tell him if he waits long enough, it might go. It takes two or three minutes for my browser (I. E. 8) to load when I log in, and it seems completely frozen until it finishes. Apparently it is a known issue.

Same thing happens to me. The laptop I use on occasion will lock up at the forum tab. The browser will then lock up, fade, and kick up an error screen. Haven't tried with any other browsers other than IE8. Other VB forums do not lock up the browser like this though.

i think this is a first time for him. he has been using windows 7 for quite some time and been on many times before without a problem. he's good with computers too so i'm sure he will figure out what the problem is if its within his system. i was just curious to see if anyone else running windows 7 had the same thing happen within the past few days.

I'm also running Windows 7 with IE8.
Edit: Just downloaded the latest version of Chrome, and the first try the Forum tab did not lock up.

This may be related to the facebook connect feature, but I am investigating

spark, ever since you put the facebook link up it takes forever for any pages to load till it does which can take some time.
is there any way you can make it optional in the settings?

spark, frosty tried again to log in and his browser still locks up if he clicks on forums from the home page. he has to close the browser since nothing works to unlock it. then he has to reset his browser before he can do anything. were you going to disable the facebook link? i have talked to a few guys that started having problems after you added that. they had the link saved in their favorites to use instead.

I don't think it is the facebook link. That has been up there for months, and I've just started having this problem in the last week or so. Just after people started reporting virus warnings was when it started for me.

his roadrunner was down last week but i doubt that would be the problem. maybe there is something in the forum software causing problems due to the viruses. nothing has changed on his pc and he was able to log in before. the rifle forum he belongs to lets him sign right in.

It's a problem associated with IE, I have Google Chrome and there are no more issues with the forums. Someone posted a link to the MSKB number associated with the actual problem. Browse the forums with something other than IE, that is the only current proven fix.

If I try to log into the "forum" page it takes an age and freezes up every time with IE. On my work computer that uses IE I have just saved one of the subforum pages into my favorites and can log in on that page with no problems. It's all good as long as I don't click the "forum" tab at the top of the page and use the "forum categories" to navigate the foum. That is the only way I have managed to get the forum smooth sailing while at work.

i talked to frosty the other night and he said the forum tab is what freezes up his pc which it never did till the day the banner ads were infected. he has checked his system for viruses and it is clean. he sees no reason to switch browsers when there is nothing wrong with his pc or browser.

See quoted post. ;)

I have installed IE 9 on one computer and was actually glad it crashed and had to be restored from scratch. I'll use alternate navigation or quit coming here altogether before I'll do that again.

Yes, that is the only fix I could find as well. I downloaded Firefox, and now have no problems when coming here from Firefox browser.
When the virus(or whatever) hit I think it affected alot of people getting here through IE.

Firefox was working well untill today. Now it keeps shutting down alot when I come here.

i talked to frostymug today and he was able to log on with the same browser he has always used. he said the problem is on the forum and not in his pc.
