my Busse Basic 9--what should i do

i picked up a Busse Basic 9 awhile back and was thinking of selling it but it's starting to grow on me so i have decided to hang on to it.should i keep it looking nice like i keep all my knives or just use it like it's made to be used and start chopping the hell out of what needs to be chopped-lol
 
Send it to me...I promise to take good care of it for you.:D.
 
A Busse Basic? Made to be used. Doesn't look finished without marks of severe and extended use.
 
I say use it and abuse it. I doubt that you would ever be able to sell it and get back what you paid for it, so use it and enjoy it to the fullest.
 
Use it, love it. No matter what you do to it it is waranteed. I regret keeping the Basics I had in mint shape, because then I sold them! If I had used them I think I would still have them.
 
Sell the Basic 9, pick up a Swamp Rat Battle Rat (the answer to the Basic 9), and use the extra cash you've just made to get one of the new D2 models from the Swamp when they let em out for show to the general public in the next couple months.

Or just use it and forget it. But the above option is a decent trade-off if you're reluctant to use this discontinued blade. :)

You underestimate the resell value of Busses. You can resell Basics for more than what you paid for it now that that particular series has been discontinued.
 
well use it i will and use it i did--had a tree out back with lots of dead branches that needed cut off and the busse did a number on them.the knife is one cutting son of a gun.
 
That works too. I wouldn't go through the bother of selling it either. :)
 
I'm glad you used your basic! They look so much better with character marks. The basics are meant to be used! I have owned several Busse knives and the basics handles are more comfortable than any of the combat grades IMO.

Still loving my Basic 9! It got a satin finish after the coating was pretty much trashed.

Got the edge thinned down to where it'll do the Coke can full of water trick, but not take damage on dead wood, and just don't think I'll find better handles for my hand (except a Swamp Rat). Fills my "big knife" niche perfectly. The 9 has kept me from buying everything from a Battle Mistress to a custom bowie.
Just don't know what I'd do with them...
 
OwenM - that's a nice looking combo! How do you like the GM? They look a little strange, but I'll bet they allow a lot of grip flexibility.

AntDog, I did alot of work on the edge and handles to get it the way I wanted it, and still wish the edge had a straight portion to it. That's an old pic-there's a scan of what it looks like now in this thread. Handled one at Blade last year, and was impressed enough by the "grooves" that I ordered one even though I didn't need it. Cool knife, and it's been fun to mess around with.
I've got a Euro Basic 4, and like it better, so that rides in my truck. I've always loved the Basics, and will be trying out some Swamp Rats, when I get around to it. Not like I'll be wearing out these Busses anytime soon:D
 
i knew the response i would get just wanted to hear it from everyone-lol. just that i have gotten so use to keeping my knives looking like new it's hard to change and use something like it should be used.
