I just got my Caly 3.5 and all I can say is WOW! Sal hit one out of the park. First off, I love the Caly 3! I always thought that the Caly 3 was the quintessential Spyderco knife. Great ergonomics, sweet tapered blade, and all of the features that make a Spyderco a Spyderco! I did not think it was possible to improve on that. Man was I wrong! This knife beat them all. I do not how such a small change could make such a big difference. And to think I almost passed on this one! I am glad I didn't! If any of you are on the fence, get one today - you will not be disappointed. :) :)

Congrats,
I agree. Caly3 is almost perfect EDC and Caly3.5 is even better. I love mine and EDC since last summer.

I also have to agree. The Caly 3.5 is just about the perfect EDC for me. I love the extra half inch in that still slim and very compact handle with its great ergos. I love using this knife when dining at restaurants. It's much more discrete than my Para 2 (another great one) and actually performs better in this application. Looking forward to the Caly 3.5 with an Aogami Blue Super blade with Gray G10 that is hopefully going to be out by the end of the year.

Oh man I love mine too but it's up for sale. If it sells I know I'll buy another in future when funds allow. Love that thin blade and easy carry. I noticed the blade is identical to the Para 2, but thinner, and the rest of the knife is a fair bit smaller and lighter. My only complaint is that one handed unlocking and closing of the mid lock is a little slow for my liking but that's true of frame and liner locks too. Axis lock seems best for quickest open and closing. I must get a Spyderco with that style lock, maybe a Manix, or something with the thinnest and longest blade possible.

Caly 3.5 blade is not "identical" to Para 2. The blade steel is different one being VG-10 and the other S30V (stock model). The shape is also quite different (aside from the Caly being thinner as you already noted). The Caly 3.5 has a leaf shaped blade. The Para 2 blade has a lot more belly and a straight spine (modified clip point). How anyone could characterize them as "identical" is beyond my comprehension, unless it is just a very careless use of language. The only thing that is similar is the length which is very close.

Length is identical, perfectly identical on mine :) It was careless of me, I did just mean the length. Of course the steel is different. The shape of the cutting edge is pretty close, the spine shapes are different.

I stand corrected though.

I realized this a few weeks ago when mine arrived. Ergonomically, there is no equal, IMO. I also love how low and slim it is in the pocket. It's a Grand Slam for Sal.

I can't wait until they make a sprint run with CF or some other pretty color (hopefully darker than lighter) of G-10 and an exotic steel.

Does the Cali 3.5 have liners or is the blade sandwiched in between the two G-10 slabs (like Cold Steel)?

There are liners, but they are not nested like an endura/delica; There is basically g10-liner-middle metal piece w/ lock-liner-g10.
