Gave it a tough cleanup this weekend, with water/soap and WD40.
Then I had the brilliant idea to convert the serrated blade into that of the XTI (with the 'fishhook' attachment).

I used a grinding stone for the rough work and then a "dremel" to fine tune my work of art !

What do you guys think ?

Nice work! How long did that take? No issues with heating the steel with the dremmel?
That blade configuration is what has been holding me back on the decision between Ti and xTi, you just made the decision a bit easier..

Have you scrapped your 25-year warranty...? That's what stops me from modifying things with long-term/lifetime warranties.

I have hear of others modifying there Leathermans and they still get them replaced under warranty when something fails to work on them.

I would suspect that unless your modification is directly related to your warranty claim you would be ok..

Looks like it came that way from the factory. Nice work!

How long did all that grinding take?

All in one, it took me an hour or 2.

I looked at pictures on the net of the XTI blade and made a sort of "template" with a black marker directly on my Ti.
The grinding was the easy part, just beware that you don't overheat the blade and make it discoulor...
I did the dremel thing on a relatively low rpm... because I didn't want the metal to discolor. Maybe I have to re-do it with a cylinder shaped wet-stone, just to make the cutting side just a bit sharper, but it's good for now...

I also don't think that my warranty be scrapped, because I didn't do anything serious. Of course, it's not my intention to send it back and ask for a replecement serrated blade...
Btw, I don't think they will charge me THAT much if they really see this as a void of warranty, at least I show them that I can do it....

Next thing is putting some small needle, pincet and maybe a small pen into it, just to see if it's possible....

OK, wouter, I'll just chalk it up to my following "the rules" too much. ;) Thinking "out of the box" is a good thing and you've extended the range of capabilities that your Ti can provide, without buying an XTi!
