I was fortunate enough to shark the Cherokee Rose offered DOTD on 6/1/12, not 2 weeks before Yvsa passed West. Man, did he design one hell of a knife. It is the liveliest, best balanced blade of its size I have ever used. Responsive and competent, It has an expert feel. Best of all though is its "vibe". A cherished keeper. Thank you Yvsa & Vim...

Very nice workmanship by the kamis. I really like the timeless blade shape: reminds me somehow of both a scimitar and a bowie. Congrats on scoring this great knife, and thanks for sharing your thoughts and pix.

I have been keeping my Rose at arm's length in my Man Cave since Yvsa's passing. It's a cherished blade for many reasons. I'd love to get another one to put this one "back" as it is a Bura, it was bought specifically for when Yangdu was collecting traveling funds to spread Uncle Bill's ashes, and it has been a faithful door-answerer for many-a-year.

I love the feel of this blade. It has a noble air about it. You get the feeling that it is not a fight starter, but by God, it will finish what you bring to its door step. A Guardian not necessarily a Warrior, 13" of perfectly balanced steel terminating to a decisive point; a crux if you will. This far, and no further. I dubbed my Cherokee Rose Resolve as when you wield it you can help but feel a rod of steel creep up your spine. Come what may.

Yes. Exactly. Thank you for what you've shared about your Rose's history, as it seems a piece of HI history too :)

How would I go about getting one of these babys? Also, does anyone know how something like this would stack up to say..a coldsteel natchez bowie? I am talking about durability.

Thanks.

never held a natchez, but natchez is also 2-4 times more the cost depending on what you get(dotd, blem, full price)

i would think its just as durable though

More durable. From what I understand, CS's bowies have a partial tang with a cable. Not that you would want to put either to heavy use, but I'd trust my Cherokee Rose a lot more.

Speaking of which, I'm trying to let a natural patina develop on mine. The high polish is really cool, but the steel is so reactive that it behaves like my white steel cleaver. At first I thought I'd leave it as is, but even gutting a dogfish and immediately rinsing and drying leaves blackish patina. Actually, I'm kind of wondering if the Tirtha Bowie wasn't made with a different material than the khukri I've gotten. The kind of steel that needs to be used... :D
