A very dear and thoughtful friend of mine gave me a new knife today as a Christmas present. I was presented, much to my bewildered shock and delight, a Custom Rick Hinderer Fieldtac. This blade is made in the CTS-XHP alloy, and is hand inscribed with Mr. Hnderer's name/signature and the alloy. More specs here;

I have to say, this is probably the finest blade I own in my collection now. It is VERY well built - over built you might even say. The spine is SUPER thick, beefey and gives the whole knife a solid "like a tank" feel to it. It seems like a very well thought out knife - lanyard hole/striking pommel, jimping on top edge and small finger bottom, a forward choil which works very well with the jimping for small detail work, yet the whole knife still has enough weight that it would be a hell of a camp chopper for heavy use. The point is a modified one that is very striking as well [no pun intended].

I'm VERY impressed with this knife, and was very honored to receive it.

Here's some pics - I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

If there is anything else someone would like to see I'll try my best to capture that for you.

Looks like you've got a good friend and a great xmas gift to boot. Congratulations thats a sweet knife. :thumbup:

Excellent looking knife, I'm jealous! You don't hear so much about Hinderer's fixed blades, usually it's his folders that get the attention.

You going to use it, or is this going in the safe? Looks like it's made for hard use!

Oh I will most definately use it - I don't really have any knives that I don't at least occassionaly use. This will probab'y become my new camp knife for a while... I like to rotate them in and out so no one gets jelous ;-)

Beautiful knife. Yoou have a great friend there that knows quality for sure. Enjoy that thing. ;)

Thats because he only seems to make 1 a year. :) Maybe he sells them at shows? I think I've seen one on the exchange in the years I've been looking.
