My Christmas knife - 1980

My wife bought me this for Christmas in 1980; she had my initials engraved on it.

From the 1970's knives actually made by S&W; designed by Blackie Collins

440C as I recall. There are better steels now but in that time frame 440C was a top end steel.

Yep, in 1980 440c was THE super steel Nice knife, and a great piece of history

Thanks, P. S., 440C would have been my guess. I had a '90s vintage S&W modern OHO with 440C steel which I used to clean a whitetail. Did a fine job.

My first knife in 440C was a Gerber Mk 2. I gave it to my mate Wolfie 20 years ago, and 2 days ago, he lost it in a burglary

Yeah, 440C was the staple in the 80s & 154CM was considered exotic.

That's quite a looker of a knife.
S&W was doing some interesting things back in the 1970's when they were owned by Bangor Punta, like manufacturing knives themselves and actually manufacturing airguns themselves.
Many people just assume they were always rebranding/ contracting anything that wasn't a firearm.

This model 79G ( indoor training counterpart for their model 41 rimfire ) was manufactured in '78 and purchased by the original owner as a Christmas gift in 1981.
