Hi all,
I am writing here for the first time given I feel like I need your suggestions.

I am from italy and last year I bought a spyderco yogimbo 2 (I was looking for something light that cutted well and was also an option for serious self defence).
I was at first disappointed : my hibben fixed knife is way bigger, but I found out it is useless as you cannot carry it nowhere.

And it was love. The grip is wow, the lock is wow.

Making a Long story short I bought a spyderco mamba (cost a lot) that is an incredibile piece of art that I am afraid to carry. Too nice.

Later I bought my first Zt an 0808 blue. Small but i love to carry it on the we in jeans... And a zt 0900 gold and a 0452 gold bronze... And a spydiechef which still has not arrived.

I am always carrying the yogimbo 2.seriously: I guest it is because I am less afraid of... Scratching titanium or carbon fiber. And that is a pain. I bought the Speedy chef since the finish is already scratched to me.

Now I am in for something that I want to carry and be close to the yogimbo in terms of how much confidence it gives me.

Zt 0460 225 euro (I might wait limited runs on this)
OR...

Microtech ultratech spartan Vs bayonet 390euro
Umnumzaam 490 euro

Slysz bowie 380 euro

I will any way buy an euroedge because I mean I like it so much.

For me warranty is useless as I am in italy so I am pretty much without it and prices are high as you see.

Question is :are ultratech wasted money? I never had an otf but as you can guess I dont want junky stuff.

I like them all, sorry for the Long post I know there are enthusiast like me that can help me

Just an fyi this is a family friendly forum and using profanitys is frowned upon outside certain areas. Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to help you not get an infraction. An ultratech is a good knife. But they (any otf really). Requires a little more attention than a normal folder. The main two things being to 1. Not to over lubricate it. It simply causes more issues than it will ever fix. 2. You need to be mindful of making sure no debris from cutting tasks is left on the blade when retracting or its gonna get into the handle and cause reliability issues. Even putting too much loctite on a screw can have it migrate to the blade and cause some grief after it dries.

As for the warranty in most cases its not needed. The most common failure is a broken spring. And in most cases the spring breaks right where it connects to one of the spring tabs. All that need to be done is taking the next coil and bending it into a hook to reattach. I hvae had one or two develop worse issues but its such a rarity its hardly worth mentioning. One ting though is many find microtechs hard to fire and even harder to retract. Even strong people are surprised at times at the difficulty they have operating one. If you fear that may be the case benchmade, h&k as well as hogue otfs are generally easier to fire. Hope that helps.

Anyone of those knives you are thinking about, you can't go wrong with. That makes for a tough decision. And i will second the ultratech/microtechs make great otf's. I've had a troodon and a ultratech, both gave me zero issues while i had them.

First off all thanks For the answers, I am sorry for my bad english. What do you think between spartan partially serrated vs bayonet in ultratech?
I will amend the profanities, I guess it means bad words?

They're a terrible company, based on their behavior. I wouldn't buy anything from them.

Capisci?

I have had a few Ultratechs and still have 2 QD Scarabs so I like the Microtech OTF's but they can be hard to open/close and I buy them off of the exchange so I am not giving MT any of my funds...I am helping a brother out and actually maybe hurting MT by not giving them a new sale. I have not had a problem with any of them and actually got the one that I carry quite a bit due to how hard it is to fire and retract. It is not that bad once you get used to it but it takes a little effort and I am sure it will not misfire in my pocket.

That being said, my favorite knife is probably the Umnumzaan (and I have approximately 40 folders) so if you can swing that price that would be my recommendation. But 490 Euro = approx $530 so that is pretty expensive, over $100 more than in the States.

Hi, just to understand:it is due to the non disassembly non sharpening etc or also other things I am not aware of?

They have released a knife that appears to be a duplicate of another company's knife (Matrix/ZT 0777). They're also suing people who talk about them online. Even suing their own child, apparently.

I personally wouldn't buy another knife from them in any case. I don't like when companies act like bullies online, trying to stop discussion about them.

Nice collection! I sure miss my Mamba. And i agree with evilgreg, at this point they are a unethical company imo. But as for my personal opinion on the mt, i like the bayonet style more. Just my opinion of course and you should follow yours.
But like i said before, any of those options are good ones, and i would wait on the 460 as well to see what sprints they might come out with. We might see some different color cf and blade steels on them:)

Today I saw the 0460,very nice but also very small. I will need to think more. Thanks for the feedback on MT

I personally would take a bayo blade over a Spartan blade. But even a tanto or drop point over both of those. Serrations I avoid in OTFs. They are useful no doubt but they require a little more attention when retracting because things you cut can get stuck in the serrations. Especially cardboard. I love the way double edge blades look in an otf but I find single edges to be more practical and useful.
