I come from the sword-collecting end of the spectrum, that is, I began collecting swords before I began collecting knives. My fascination with swords stems from the dichotomy that they present, that they are such beautifully crafted and often elegant tools built for a very ugly purpose. Most swords, unlike knives, are purpose built weapons - that is their primary function; even ceremonial swords (such as the so called "Sword of St. Maurice", the coronation sword of the Holy Roman Emperor, the "Charlemagne sword", the sword of King Edward III, etc.) never meant to be used in combat were functional weapons none the less. I apologize for the poor photography - I don't own an SLR type camera, nor do I have a light tent set-up: the following pictures were taken with a point-and-shoot. I present my collection for your perusal.

An overview: (top) MRL Bec de Corbin (shaft is a replacement). (Main row, L to R:) Arms & Armor Henry V, MRL/Windlass "Baselard"/degen, Del Tin 5151 "Italian Sword", MRL/Del Tin "Spada", MRL/Del Tin Cinquedea, MRL Rapier (based on an original in the late Hank Reinhardt's collection). (Bottom:) Bugei "Dragonfly" daisho, Hachiwara (maker unknown)

The rapier and degen are no longer part of my collection: they were sold to make room for near-future upgrades: the Arms and Armor "Writhen Rapier" and an Albion "Munich".
