While I was perusing ebay the other day, I came across this 1991 commemorative Remington fixed blade knife, (which was made under contract by Camillus Cutlery). It was made to commemorate Remington's 175th anniversary. The price was $75 with free shipping. I thought the knife seemed very nice and would be a cool addition for my collection, so I went ahead and purchased it. Well, it arrived to me today.

The knife came in truly mint condition, it more than meeting my expectations.
It arrived with it's original shipping box, the knife's original factory box, the paperwork, and it's cherry wood display plaque. Everything literally seems like it was carefully stored away since it was originally purchased. It was like opening up a 31 year old time capsule ๐Ÿ˜

I think it's a very cool little knife and feel I got a great score!

My only living about 6 to 8 miles away from the now defunct Camillus Cutlery location, I have some fondness for many of the products they produced.

That's pretty swood, man! I like the old Remington knives, as well!

What is the old Camillus factory now? Is it something new, or is it just an old defunct knife ghostyard? I'd love to go through the bowels of an old defunct American knife factory!

Nice knife, but Cammilus never made a "vintage Remington knife" :)

Maybe Cammilus never did, but Camillus Cutlery made lots of what are now considered "vintage Remington knives" as a subcontractor when Remington was still in operation.......but this knife is not one of them.....

I was thinking, since it's a 1991 made knife, that it was made by Camillus Cutlery under contract for the Remington brand.
If not Camillus, than does anyone have an idea which US knifemaker made this knife for Remington?

Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ‘

I believe only that the small front office building is all that is left, I don't recall what business is being run out of it now. The larger factory section caught fire sometime after the company went out of business, it was fully destroyed and was leveled afterwards.

The paperwork explains it being American made. If it is not a Camillus made knife, then I have no clue as to which of the remaining US knife makers at that time would have been contracted to do so.
If anyone has info on that, please share... thanks! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Btw, I still am guessing it was made by Camillus, but now have some doubt.

As far as I am aware, Camillus made the Remington Annivesary and Bullet knives until 2007 or so when they closed.
That's what I was told as well, but... maybe I was told wrong? Dunno ๐Ÿค”

I joined a facebook page that is dedicated to Camillus knives, so... I posted the question there. I guess there are quite a few folks on that fb page that were employees of Camillus Cutlery, so I'm hoping to get a definitive on my question.
I'll chime back here and post any info that they may share with me ๐Ÿ‘

Remington UMC has been out of the knife making business since 1940. When Remington UMC was actually making knives, Camillus was a subcontractor for them. The knives made between 1920 and 1940 are considered original vintage Remingtons. Your knife is a recent reproduction made under contract by Camillus for Remington Arms.

Yes, I know it's not an original Remington knife of their time when Remington actually produced such knives. Those originals are now, in some cases, antiques, or very close to it.

I collect all sorts of things, including things that I consider new/newish items. Those are usually anywhere from being made this year, to being made maybe 15 to 25 years ago.

I also collect vintage items that I usually consider to be 30 to under 100 years old.

And, I also collect things that are 100+ years old, in which case I consider antiques.

This knife I showed above was made 31 years ago. Made by a company that went defunct 15 years ago... So, that is why it is considered vintage to me ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, I figured out a way to squeeze it into one of my displays. It always takes me playing a bit of musical chairs with things, but that's all good ๐Ÿ˜Š
